to take .his place in the White ouse.
This he is not at all likely' to do.
Such a step would be without pre-
cedent in the United States. Other
)Presidents have had to deal with a
hostile Congress, and 1r. Truman no
doubt feels that to desert his post
would be a confession of weakness.
He still )has his power of veto against
which. the Republican members of Con-

the next two years may see some

ever, with confusion and hatred and
strife rearing their ugly heads in all
directions. But one needs only to
think back to the year 1940 to realize
how much better the outlook is than
it was in that fateful year when it
looked as if the Nazi terror would be-
stride the world, Europe would be
enslaved. the British Empire would be
dissolved, tet.. nations of America
would have to seek tile best terms they
could make with the all-powerful con-
querorS---eiyilization would be iu ruins.
We could have hoped that after escap-
ing such a fate the nations would
settle down in peace and harmony,
but once aroused the god of war is
not t'so easily subdued. The man who
has won his way with the use of his

Bee keepers in Australia are faced
with a new enemy. About twelve

beetle which had become a pest. Now
the toad, in turn, is becoming a pest,
