Veterans Too Good for Juveniles
The Veterans grabbed,.nn early lead
on the Juvenile& in the second game,
and althotagli the returned men, sdme
of them playing their' first game in
five years, weakened rather badly near
the end, there was still enough fight
in them to hold the young teen-agers
off. Sclioenals in the Vets' goal had.
a lot to do with •keeping the Juveniles
-from tieing 'the game in the dying
minutes.
Bud Johnston with three goals was
top scorer for the Vets, while Skip
MacDonald and Ann Doak with " two

Once Of the biggest crowds to 'jam
into the West street Arena in year''
over thirteen hundred. people --saw
Lucheneve Juniors set back LOn on's
''lyers ' 6.3 on .D onday ev ening. The
win was . Lucki19w's .. fourth' without
a loss and for the :Flyerah was - the
second streight loss in league eon'-
petition. -
. The game produced every - thrill,. the
big ' crowd had expected of it. At
times the play beet nm a bit ragged, but
so. great was the tension• up to the
last fair' minutes, and so fast did the
,play move' from one end of the rink to
.tick pther, that .the .fans went aw;a'
more than pleased. As was expected
by all, the three Chin brothers. Biu,
aged 18, • Albie, 17, and 'George; 16,
were the main clog in the 'Lucknow.
Machine. They flew in high gear all
night with their smooth passing plays
and only the sulrerb work of Gerry
Ginn in the Goderich goal kept them
from 'tallying more than they did.
The three Chinese lads proved, will -o -
the -wisps as the bigger Goderich
players tried, unsuccessfully, to kno+ek
thein q- their stride with body checks.'
Lucknow, however, did not have
-everything their own way and Orr_.in
the visitors' net had to be very good
to hold the. _ Fl ers down. The Gode-
rich_' lada.,..aat times had more of the
play than Lucknow, but` -they didn't_
know what' to do with the puck -once
in pay -dirt and severaLtimes over-
kated a pass or passed at the wrong
time: The Flyers were also guilty
of leaving _ opposing forwards im-
overed in front' of the GoderIehenet
and at least two Lucked, goals, ,re-
sulted - front this. „
Neither. team could perm to untangle
themselves as the game opened, but
Georges and Bill Chin. suddenly found
themsejves and on smootli combination
plays gave Ginn plenty ' of trouble:
Halfway through, 'the period their
efforts paid oft', George Chin •cutting 'done most -of the damage and were
across the; Goderich goairriouth leaidixig by a score of 5-2 ,on goals byu
pass 'to Broiheiill, who pumped a
hard shot at Ginn. Ginn stopped the Allen A11tn from D Warren Westlake
ppuck, but George picked up, the re-
bound and. dumped, it into the. net.
Joe-Wiilther;- newly acquired: pla
from Mitchell; tied the score for the
Flyers at 14.00 when„ after_('Blondie"
MacDonald had fought like a trojan
and sniped. him the puck, Walther
calmly skated -in,---drew Orr -out of -the
Lucknow cage, and slipped the puck in
behind him. With, ._leas_ _than three.
minutes of the period- remaining -the
Chins ganged the Goderich goal again
and After Ginn had saved on two
difficult shots, George Chin slipped the
puck into the open: cage.
There was no let-up in the,l.ucknow
attack in the seconi3'ieriod and Ginn
had , to rise to the oeeasion a half-
dozen: tunes to keep the disc out.
But he was no superman, and ' when
he Goderich defence' started skating
in ;circles and let -,Bill Chin ,pounce on
_a - loose- .puck- t- was -goal ;No.-- .. for
Lucknow, ' ;as the little forward -made
go mistake in dipping the -`puck high
into the cage after Ginn had un-
successfully tried to smother it..
• Reall&ing they were losing ground
the Flyers • turned on the heat, and
when Hall was penalized for tripping
Miller, Ainslie and Skip MacDonald,
backed by ._Holmes and Stoddart,
ganged the Lucknow end for the entire
two minutes. Only , a combination of
luck and good goal -tending _ on the part
of Orr and poor shooting- on the part
of the Flyers kept the red light from
-blinking. The goal judge refused to
allow what the Goderich team claimed
Was a goal by ,MacDonald- and' the
referee. backed his decision. '
At 12.25 the old Flyers' bugaboo of
not eovering a zd i reared its head -
and Purvis was allowed to' snare a
loose puck along the boards and .skate
in, unmolested, to pull Ginn out and
slip the disc into- the Goderich . cage.
His goal, coming at 12.25, made the
score 4-1 for Lucknow.'
A clever ' goal by Miller was disale
lowed by the referee because of -the
new red -line offside ' ruling and the
Goderich boys discouragingly had to
get back to the work of whittling down
the ' visitors' lead. This they did at
17.10; McNairn scoring undssisted,"-to
make the score 4-2. Another Lucknow
goal loomed when 'Bill- Chin 'broke In
alone on _Ginn, but the clever Goderielt
neirpinder got his leg in the rout,' of
the puck. -
The third ,period opened with the
Flyers in a do-or-die effort. Miller,
heady Goderich forward, almost caught it is hard to say, Perhaps with
the corner of the Lucknow net when Holmes -and -the two. Mitchell boys on
he rounded the cage to fire .a back -the ice the score would have been
hander. Orr, hdwever, stoleped ; the different in the draft. period; but . it
puck. McNairn, Walther and -4Blondie"• -
MacDonald broke with only one ' de- - -
fetreemnu .ahead of them, - but-- -after- 'Nairn, -Walther, Bruce
McNairn had' laid down a nice pass
Walther. -lifted the puck over the net.
' A penalty to Holmes at the 15.00
mark ' appeared -to doom the Flyers'
chances; but. the reverse .proved true
when Don Ainslie batted in a rebound
