Why do women take to ohloral and

because they cannot obtain eleholie

have some form of stimulus. And
then the deadly hold that opium,
chloral, andother secret forms ef in-

great incentive and danger. Woe to

DEAR Ste, ---The Board of Health
made their first inspection on Sat-
urday, and ars to meet to -night for
the purpose of making recommenda•
tions to the inhabitants of the village
touching the absolute necessity of
putting the town in a perfect sanitary
condition.
• The law is very distinct and plain
upon the matter, and it behooves the
public (for their own safety) to do all
„ that eau be done to cleanse andpurify
their premises. Las year I called
the attention of the council to the
creek running through the south end
of the town, and fiud it now in.pliteee
in a'very Unhealthy condition. Would
'that wherever this kind of legislation
had been carried into effect the re -
snit had beenbeneficial. beyond the
expeotations Ofitliosti, who advocated
it, and completely disproving the wild
assertions made by the "Anti -Tem-
perance party" about its feilure in
Halton and where ever.else it had
been ,tried. The Rev'd. gentleman
though speaking under great difficulty
carried his audience right wi.h him -
was repeatedly cheered, and at the
close of his appeal to elootors to do In
the matter what their conscience and'
