A resident +of Ocalerieh for nearly
—half a century* Mrs. Thomas W. Bell,
aged. 77, passed away suddenly nt .
her home on 'Trafalgar Street, on.
Saturday: afternoon, Mrs. Bell had
been ailing for Sonne months but was
not confined too her bed. until, the
Friday before. she died.
She was-- formerly Marr Haley,
daughter of the 'late .• Robert Haley

the next decade of her life was spent.
They returned to .Goderich and Mrs.
Bell has resided here ever since.
She was, married to Mr.. Thomas W.
Bell, who survives her,. about 11
years ago.
Mrs. Bell was identified with
North St. United Church, 'Two sis-
ters, Miss Elizabeth Haley and Mrs.
E. J. Forrest of Sherbrooke, Quebec;
and a brother, Mr. John Haley of
Toronto, survive. A. sister, Miss
Margaret Haley, passed away in"
January.
The funeral was held on Tuesday
afternoon, from her late home, Rev..
W. P. Lane, assisted by Rev. A. C.
Calder, conducted the service. I i-
terment was made in Maitland
Cemetery.,
PETER COLE
Another of the older native sons of
Goderich Township passed away on
March 30th in the person of Peter Cole,
who died suddenly of stroke at the hesae
of his son, Percy Cole, T'uckerslnith, with
whom he had been living for thep ast
-two-months. –He vas 'tire orr-or`pddneers
of the chstrict, the late Peter Cole and
Jane Miler, who were• of Irish na,tional-

Bayfielcl Line, in October, ,,1$43. He was
in .his 88th year. On New Year's Day,
1815, he scurried Mary P,,c'ck, who prede-
ceased him by eight years. They farm-
ed on the . homestead and after Mrs.
Cole's death the bereft husband took up
residence in Clinton. Since the .partial
'destruction of his home a year ago Mr.
Cole had -resided with his daughter, (Mrs.
John Maid, Goderich Township .He
was Conservative in politics and United
Ohuroh in religion. Survivifig is one t
brother, John Cole, 451 J ago, aged 90.
years, and the eldest and last survivor t
of the family. There are four sons:
Percy, Tuckersmith; Robert; Goderich
Township; Randall, Toronto, end War-
wick,- Detroit. Flossie, the only daugh-
ter, is Mrs. John Mair, Goderich Town-
ship. There are also five grandchildren.
lThe funeral was held on Thursday
when Rev. CI W. Cozens, Clinton, con-
' ducted Service. Interment was made in

Mr. A. Hasty is in Goderich writ-
ing an exam from Toronto Univer-
sity. Miss Dorothy Wilson is supply-
ing at the school in his absence.
Mics. H. Wilson went into Goderich
Hospital for a minor operation last
Thursday. She is expected home on
Friday of this week.
Misses M. Ferguson and B. Law-
son were home from. Stratford Nor-
mal over the week end.
On Monday, six auto loads of tae
former neighbors and friends of Mr.
and Mrs. Samuel Cox went to ,Gode-
rich on a surprise visit to celebrate

farm now occupied by Mr. John Hal-
lan, and erected buildings and liv )d
there until ten years ago, when they
moved to Regent St. Goderich. They
have three sons: Clarence, of White-
church; Ralph; of the States; and
Melbourne of Auburn; and two
grandsons. Mr. Cox has one sister
living, Mrs. Wm. Mason of Rainy
River. The surprise party of about
two dozen took the dinner along witn
hem, and all enjoyed a merry time
ogether.

HOWARD R. CLUFh'
Howard R. Cluff, prominent Landon
lawyer, died in a Hamilton hospital on
Matt_h let, having been taken off the
train ashe was on his way to Toronto.
His death was due to a heart attack.
He was thirty-six years of age and is
survived bw his wife, two children, his
mother and one brother, R. Oluff of
Strtithrcdy. Eoth brothers served in the
Great War.

The townof Goderich lost a, valued
and life-long resident, at midnight
on Mondays when Mrs. H: T:
wards -died at 'leer hoiue. Six
before her death, Mrs. Edwards suf-
fered a stroke, and gradually sank.
Her untimely death is a grievous
shock to an ever -widening circle of
friends.
The funeral will take place this
afternoon, at 2.30, for interment in
Maitland Cemetery.
Mrs. Edwards was a daughter of
the late Thomas McKenzie, and Mrs.
McKenzie, the latter living in Toron-
to with another daughter, Mrs. Wit:-
ter
itter Buchanan.
The deceased lady was born and
educated in Goderich, and was an
active Metahber of the North St. uni-
ted Church, being for two veers pre-
sident of the Women's Association.
She was intensely interested in the
Children's Shelter, of which Mr. Ed-
wards is the Superintendent, and
never wearied in her efforts to im-
prove conditions for the little in-
mates.
In 1920 the loss of her sori;-ITarry,
by drowning, created a sad break in
the family. She is survtvedi by Mr.
Edwards, and their one daughter,
Mabel,
Mr. and Mrs. Edwards would have
celebrated the 33rd anniversary of
their wedding on +h,, 30th of this
month.

prevalence of measles. It is hoped
the epidemic will soon be over.
Misses Helen and Jean Whitely
of the University of Toronto, ,spent
the week end at their home and also
attended the funeral of their young-
est brother, Ross Durnin.
Jim and diff Sturdy, sons of Mr.
and Mrs. Reginald Sturdy, are the
latest victims of the measles.
