POLITICIANS ARE NOT MAGICIANS
According to a Toronto daily, Ontario's debt is In.
creasing at the rate of $100,000 a day, owing largely to
groats for relief.
Hon. David Croll announced last week that Canadian
expenditures for relief in 1935, were approximately
$35,000,000, of which the Federal Government paid $7,-
500,000, the ProVince, $20,500,000, and the municipali-
ties $7,900,000.
As relief grant a are practically all unproductive, the

On the one hand, the public demand expenditures for
building harbors, highwags, armouries, and scores of
other things, 'and on the other. they do not want to Pay
The Price. They seem to forget that politicians are net
ntagiciarts with some mysterious plan of extracting
money from hate, barrels, or bottomless pits.. The
taxpayer is the only source of supply, and if the tax-
payers would ease off en their demands, the politicians
would have a better chance lof doing something for the
cotintry at; a whole.
