The meeting was one of the largest
poiitical gatherings in the history Of
cloderich. Many people were interested
mrhis Man •Hepburn" and came to
satiify a curiosity. They began gather-
ing from all parts of the County as early
as 1 o'clock and. sat through speeches
from a number of local men until half
past four before Mr. Hepburn. who was
making his fourth speech of the day,
finally appeared.
H. Robertson was chairman Of the
gathering, the speakers' stane being an
improvised platform erected on the track
in front of the grand stand.
▪ Jno. H. Scott, of Hullett Township,
was the first speaker and he dealt, in a
broad and able manner, with the short-
comings of the Henry Admitistration
Referring• to the local candidates he
'claimed that they had contributed cap-
ably and considerably to the welfare of
the community. He scoffed at the
charge 'that prospective Liberal cabinet
.members lacked experience, citnig a num-
ber of instances in which men of no
public experience had been chosen for
high public office by both parties
