Council of the Board of Trade attended a luncheon at
the Hotel Sunset last Thursday as gumma of Mr. A. C.
Truster, goodwill representative of The Port Huron

tion, featuring the opening of the Blue Water Bridge
between Sarnia and Port Huron, which is to take place

Auburn, was acquitted of reckless driv-
ing by Magistrate J. A. Makius on
Thursday last, His Worship holding the
youth did everything in his power to
avert` an ac'c'ident.

Phyllis 'Steep who was walking to
school at 'Saltford, ran across the road
in front of the ear. Asquith swung to
the ditch and struck a guy wire, which
pulled dowit-a._lrydro_ pole.._ Tile, girl,
nut seriously injured.
Phyllis and a little friend, Marjorie
Majusky, aged ten, gave evidence
smartly and were complimented by His
Worship upon their brightness.
There Was -sonic doubt an -to whether
the ear or the pole struck, the girl un-
til she .was put on the stand.
"IM you know what struck you?"
asked Crown Attorney ,Moines.
"It wat the 'tclepaaone' pole," the
child replied, without hesitation.
Evelyn l'laetzer, passenger in the
car, said Asquith was driving slowly
and sounded his horn on approaching
the children beside the road.
-Children on or beside the road are
very uncertain in their movements,"
said the Magistrate, "and a motorist
must exercise extreme caution. There
is no doubt this boy did the best he
could."
Die Was on His Way
James 'Steele, of Saltford, caused no
little commotion when, after choosing
a ten day jail term in lieu of a .$10
tine for consuming in a public place, he
disappeared from the court house. A
policeman started after him and found
Steele, a cripple, walking slowly to-
wards the jail. The officer returned
for his commitment papers, set out in
his car and gave Steele a lift the re-
mainder cf the way to the jail.
\\^ilfred Graham failed to appear to
settle on a drunk charge and the ease
was adjourned a week.
Byron 'Kyle, of aHensall, who was in-
volved in an accident the first of the

driving.
A charge of breaking and entering
with intent to Commit theft, preferred
against John Weiss, was° adjourned a

at Harbor Park
The annual picnic of the A.Y.P.A. of
the Deaner)" of Huron 1% as held at
Harbor Park on Weldnesclay afternorrn
of last week', and this year the mem-
bers welcomed a few friends front the
Deanery of l'erth. About eighty-five
young people were in attendance from

Seat forth, hayfield, Clinton and Goclvi-
ic•h.

proposed by John Han kins, of Clinton.

was brought to a close with an inspir-
