The morning ,pf the 24th was a beautiful day and , thousands„ of speetttors__'ued out. Forty-eight .riders were entered, mostly from Hamilton and. Brantford, but a few from- Toronto. It' was a handicap affair and about th-irteen miles}' The handicap limit was seven min- utes 'and I was given a .satisfactory four -minutes handicap ` on the scratch Hien, who were ...riders of .c'onsi'derable reputation. The Brantford .Race Somewhat nervous and dubious •when Dan - pushed me off, I started• in • pursuit of probably twenty-five• riders ahead, and •somewhat toy. m. own surprise began to -pass single riders and riders in bunches, and more self-confidence 'inspired tne. 4 nailed, the last 'two just before the turn at Paris and could have 'turned first, but I slowed down to make sure the officials had got iny number.. It didn't do me any harm to know that. Next time - I looked back, which Was' about half- way ° back to Brantford, I• was at; least. a• half -mile .ahead of - the nearest rider.
