on Monday from Sea.forth, Lucknow,
Exeter, Clinton, Kincardine,, Brussels
and Blyth. With the Goderich players,
there were thirty-fettr teams. in play.
The trophy was captured by a Gode•
rich pair, J. R. Wheeler and Geo. Mac-
Bwau, who won four games with. a
plus 'of 24.
Goderich teams Avon all the other
prizes also: 2nd, Geo. Mathieson and
P. F. Carey with three wins and plus
of 21; 3rd, P: Bisset and A. Kirton
with ,three • wins "and plus of 20;4t1,.
John Johnston and Frank McArthur,

plus of 17.
,Four of Goderich's best bowlers are

at his home in London' on Sunday
night after Ave years spent overseas.

from the navy. ,Arnold joined the
navy in June, 1942, and trained -at
Toronto, Detroit -and in New Jersey
before going Overseas in February of
1943. He was leading stoker aboard

Sieily and WOcampaigns and saw
much action. Five of his shipmates

were-..jo, t when n a German plane flew
over and dropped bombs ,ou their ship,
but Arnold came through without "a
scratch. In May of 1944 he vas given
leave and went to England and Scot-
land, and returned home in September,
1944, aboard the'Queen Mary and had
the honor of being one of the military
Police for Prime' Minister Churchill.
Phe Queen Mary was only fourdays
crossing and . decked at New York and
Arnold came home for three months'
leave. While home Arnold married
Miss Edna Ruffell of Goderich. : At the
end of his leave he reported back to
Halifax, where he took a petty officer's
course. He was successful in passing;
his examinations and was petty officer
when he got his discharge. Arnold is
now in Goderich: and expects to take
over his taxi business. ,
A pleasant evening was spent in the
school -house of S.S. No. 1, Goderich
township, on, Friday; August 24, when
the people of the section, ,gathered 10
welcome home Sgt. Phil Bissett, R.C:
A.F., son of Mr. and Mrs. Con. I.
Bissett,. Uulon.road. Phil enlisted in
1939. wept overseas in December, 1942,
and was stationed with a- ground crew
uI ,Northern Ireland. A program con-
sisting of a' singsong and impromptu
speeches, followed by ,dancing to music
supplied byMcDonald's orchestfa,was-
heartily 'enjoyed. After lunch Jack
Johnston read a short address and
C1ay'ton Laithwaite.prefiented Phil with
a sum . of money as, a token of ap-
preciation from.. his friends of S.S.
No. 1. While • overseas Phil ma-fried-

�1.• Two Homes Bereaved.—Two homes
in tfie community Were .saddened .this
week by a visit from the Angel of
Death. Mrs. Margaret McDonald, who
had been i11 a long time, quietly passed
away on Tuesday evening. She leaves
a sister, Miss Agnes Griffin, to mourn.„
her loss. Early Wednesday ramming,
Mr. Den. McCullough passed b away
after one day's illness. at his home at
Tipperary. Mr. McCullough was a
Brother of. Mrs. Wm. Fuller. The
sympathy of the community goes out to
the members of -these homes.

favor of the airmen. Westfield evened
up by winning at Westfield on Friday
night, 4-2, The deciding game ' came

body's game up to the . last minute, as
Westfield had three men, on bases
