• Cattle "Drowned. -A peculiar hap-
pening took place 111.4 Friday after-
noon or evening at the farm of Mr.
Roderiek McKenzie, when two: yearling
•cattle broke out of ,the barnyard- and
wandered oVei mile to the lake,
where they were drowned in about
3% feet of water. ...They had some-
how got their heads alight under the
ice. • The tWo were found close to-
gether on Saturday morning.

Returns from Overseas. Reeve
13rown Smyth of West Wawanosh•has
received word that his nephew, Pilot
Officer Robt. Brigham, arrived in
Toronto on Sunday from overseas,
after two year's' service there:- He
served in a tem of operational flights
and lastly ,as an ,instructor in Scot-
land. He' is well known, here, hakring
made his .home with bis aunt and
uncle on the eth concession of West
Waw.anosh. and attended Lucknow
High School. We are glad to dknow
heis in very good health and expects
to be up this way the last of this week
if possible.
•Death of Ashileld Native. - The
death occurred at rTbrOnto on March
14th of Mrs. Mary Jane Gallagher,
widow of Rev. -William Gallagher,
after a long period of invalidism.
Mrs. Gallagher ,wasi a native of Ash
field township, a• daughter' of the late
Mr. and Mrs. James 'McConnell. Her
husband -served in. eharges,--In Huron
and Grey counties before going' to
Toronto about forty-tve 'years ago.
