competition in the history of the Fair.

Cook tomatoes twelve minutes in boil-
ing water, a few at a time. Rethove
each tomato carefully, drain thorough-
ly, and place in jars. Make a syrup of
other ingredients. Boil five minutes.
Strain over tointstoes, 'Seal tightly.

2 cups salt
2 eablespoons cloves •

2 quarts vinegar

Peel and chop tomatoes.. Chop .pep
pees, eelery and onion coarsely. .MIX
vegetable% add stilts and let stand over-
night. Boil vinegar, sugar and spices

strained vinegar •syrup. Pour into
sterilized -jars and seal. 'This makes
an excellent salad for winter use -if
jellied with plain gelatine If used as
