Manitoba correspondent sends us the information that a short time ago the house and effects of Mr. A. Cardno (late of Seeforth). were eutirely consumed by fire, 11Ir. Cardno being severely burnt while trying to save some of the contents, and Mr. A. Coekerline (late of Loudesboro) also sustainine injuries therefrom, which rendered him unfit for work for some time. The Blyth Record of last week -says: -We are Ied to understand that Mr. Jae. Clark, of this village, has entered an action against Messrs. C. Hamilton, T. Watson, W. H. Watson and Mrs. T. Watson, for alleged defamation of character. The suit has arisen out of the action taken by the Messrs. Watson and Hamilton in having an request held to investigate the cause of fire which partially consumed the buildings of Mr. '1'. Watson in April last, Wheth- er Mr. Clark has any chance of gaining anything through the suit or not we are at present unable to say. We und• erstand the amount claimed is two thousand dialers each, amounting in all to $8,000. On Monday evening of last week, a traveller named Dr. McLeod, while driving in a buggy along Main etueet Seaforth, was thrown out opposite the Mansion House, and was severely in- jured. Mr. Carmichael. like a good Samaritan, had the injured man taken into his hotel, and properly oared for. The doctor is all right again, and none the worse for hie sudden gyrati'n.
