Died i* malty, Mich.
The sad news was received here on
Thursday last of the death of one of
Exeter's pioneer resident., in the per-
son of William Gould, who ed
away at the home' of Mr. and Mrs,
Walter Andrews, Holly, Mich., on the
4th inst.. Mr. Gould has been in rather
feeble heath for the past year and a
half, from an affliction of the heart,
but he experienced little or no change
iridins condition until about aur d.
previous to his demise; when the
sease asserted itself in a way that made
manifest'that the end was not far off
and the end soon came. Born in Dev-
onshire, England, be came to: Canada'
when-about23-years-oiaege and:ffrztset
tled in Dorchester, where he remained
only a few years. He then moved to
Exeter, where he. lived the greater
part of hist life, proving himself a citta►
zen of the highest moral excellence
and esteemed by all who had the plea-
sure. of his acquaintance. He was
ams ig the first to join the ExeterVol-
unteer Company and took on arms
when the Fenian Raid disturbance
took place In the year 186. H a was
also one of the team to win the Battal-
ion Cup in the shooting contest at
Clinton in the, year 1808. • About eight
years ago the deceased took up his res-
idence in Detroit. and later at Holly,
where he continued to reside. up to the
time of his death. He is survived by
one brother. Mr. Jas. Gould, of town,
and five sisters, all of whom reside in
England. The late ' John Gould was
also a brother. Deceased was never
married. The remains were brought
here for tidal, the funeral taking
place from the-resldence of his brother,
Mr. Jas. G old, Main Street. on Sun-
day to the Exeter cemstery, nearly ail
the pall -bearers being composed of his
volunteer associates. , '
