April 7th 'all the members were Present
and were duly sworn as a Court of Re-
evision of the assessment for the Wa,sh-
burn Drain imposed by By-law No. 3,
1906. There was only one appeal
which after careful consideration was
dismissed, the assessments confirmed,
and the court closed. The following

JOHN STEWART Dati.D.-The sudden
death occurred on April 1st of John D.
Stewart, a touch respected resident of
this township. He teitirned as usual
on Sunday night and was found dead
in bed on Monday morning. Heart
trouble is aupposecl to be the Cause.
Ile is survived by a, widow but no
children. The funeral took place the
following Wednesday to Nairn's °eine:

for Elmira where the former has open-
ed up a general store. -The marriage

has returned from, a visit of some weeks

returned from taking a course in For-
est City Business College. -The boys
did not do so well at the weekly shoot,

has returned to Chicago to resume his
duties.- The iillage contemplates
building a plank sidewalk out to the
fair grounds. -Some of our shooters
intend going to Exeter to -morrow tc

Misses Susie and Amelia Bender of De-
troit are visiting friends here.
DEATH. --The death took place ,on
April 1st of Mrs. C. Soldare at the age
of 79'years, 11 rnonths, .and 27 days.
She had been staying with her daugh-
ter, Mrs. Stelck, con. 14aFlay, for some
time. Her illness was of only two weeks
duration. Sh was highly esteemed
by -all who knew her during her fifteen
years:residence in Zurich, Her hus-
band -died eight years ago. She is sur-
vived by Iwo sone in, Manitoba and two
daughters, Mrs. Johnston and Mrs.
Stelek. The filperal took place the
following Tuesday to Bronson Line
cemetery.

Mount Vesuvius, Italy, after a-sil-
enee of about 24 years, its now an ac-
tive voice na again and is belching forth
great quantities of lava, cinders. and
ashes and causing wide-spread,disaster.
According to information received
probably as many as 500 lives were
lost. It is said that more than 200
persons in the district of San Giuseppe
perished while from the ruins of c.
church, which c )1Iapsed owing to the
weight of ashes on the roof, forty-nine
corpses were extricated. It is asserted
that at San Giuseppe thirty -even per -
80118 were killed by falling houses.
Reports from coast and inland towns

At Naples a frightful disaster occur-
red on April 10th, when over 200 peo-
