This would oroate an interregnum be- tweeu the first and seveuth,, the most critical period of the pouring struggle, which would have to be tilled by Haynes, the President of the Senate, a Republican. The scenes on the streets resembled those familiar in war times: z1 seus, ttion'was caused by the discovery. that Richard's light infantry were j repariug to_renlove their muskets from the arseual. Capt. Torry, a 'Re- pltblieaa, orderod the farms to be peeked without the knowledge of his Beaten- ants, who are ' Greenbaokers. The State authorities have' been, informed of the intention to remove the arms, and will try to stop it. The news that a company from Portland would pass through the town on their way to Au- gusta, increased the excitement. Till. CLERGY AFFECTED: TWenty-fico per cent. of the mem- bers of Rev. Austin. Bradley, pastor of the Episcopal church, 'was a speaker at the same indignation meeting: Rev. H. W. Tilden, pastor of the first Bap- tist chstrop„ ektignsta, preached war- like sermon yesterday. It is under- etood that some leading politicians as- sieted iu preparing tho sermon, ant] the deolaration of war is regarded as semi-official. , TROOPS UNDER ORDERS: Portland,. kta., Dec. 2U.—Captain Lynob, of the Montgomery Gaards, has notified his men to. bo ready to march' at an instant's notice, jOnl whicl ..it is inferre.l the company with light in- ettry will be called to Augueta., UNASKED ADVICE Boston, Mass., Dee. 29.—Gen. PARTICULARS QF THE STORM DURING, WIIIQH THE AQCIDENT OOGURREIY, New York, Deo. 80,—A London special to the Telegram says : The tidings of the disaster were first con- veyed by a gentleman who had left his house with a friend, while the south- west gale was blowing with all its fury. They began discussing, whether, on such a night, the Edinburgh. train would venture mobs the bridge, `They then went to the block telegraph signal box, situated at the north end of the bridge, where they found a number of men also anxiously waiting information an the subject. Some of then assert- ed they l nd seen the lights of the train iu question enter on the bridge, cross. the lower spans into the high girders, and then they saw a sudden shower of fire, which, with the lights of the train. seemed to descend with greet velocity :into the river, and then perfect dark- ness followed. Minutes and minutes passed, but no signs of the train were seen, and the people asked themselves, were these really the lights of the Ed- inburgh train they had seen so sudden- ly queue hed. The horror-stricken be- holden made vehement appeals to the signalman to ascertain :he truth. lie replied that all he knew of the matter eek. --j was that the train had been signalled ''y yI to hila from the south end of the bridge Pe'' at nine minutes past 7 o'cle!ek. Dis- covering no indications of the approach of the train the alarmed sigual man en- deavored to telegraph to the south end of the bridge, but communication had ceased. London, Dec. 29.—The gale which destroyed the Tay Bridge was the woet violent ever seen in Seottand since the memorable storm of Jan., 1868.
