a majority of nine.

sstruoted to dreft a by-law to confirm
by-law No. 4, 1878, of the Township'of
Hallett, to stop rap a road allowance

Road Commissioners.

on the order of the Road Commission-

and repairing County bridges—Carried.
Tho Clerk was authorized to request
the late Engineer to collect all tools
and other property belonging to the
county and place the same in charge of

at Liverpool, and brings two of the
brew of the British ship Vauaiemttn,
whom she rescued from a boat. The
Vandieman collided with an unknown
vessel and both went down. It is sup-
posed that all on board were lost except
the two just rescued.
The definitive treetyy of peace be-
tween Bessie and Turkey has at last
been signed. The Russians are to
commence the evacuation of Turkish
territory immediately, and c.lnelude in
thirty-five days. Podgoritzas has been
surrendered to Montenegro.
Dr. MoEachran, of Montreal, who
was appointed by the- Government to
investigate the cattle disease in the
United States has returned, and reports
the disease as very prevalent through=,
out the Eastern States, but that it heti
not yet made its appearance in Canada.
All cattle which have arrived in Eng
land siuce the cargo by the steamer
°uteric arrived have been found free
from disease and the British Govern-
ment, in view of this fact, are not in-
clined to be too rigidwith regard to
the importation of American cattle,
and if they are thoroughly inspected
before shipment, they will be allowed
to land.

The Emperor William intends to
open the Reichstag in person.
The German ieiiuister at Copenhagen
has ban recalled, so it is rumored.
The Persian 119iuietry has approved
of a duty on grain, cattle and horses.
The 'Prince Imperial of France is re-
ported dangerously ill.
A large number of German ladies
have petitioned the Emperor not to
suppress Ursulino Convents.
The disease which has broken out in
Thessaly, resembling the plague, is fast
spreading.
The bark Espeland from New York
to England lost her captain overboard
during heavy weather.
The latest reports state the Ameer
is siok, and that Yaicoob Khan is in
constant communication with hien.
Diphtheria is raging in parts of New
York State. The public schools in
sone places have been closed in conse-
quence.
England has conciuded a convention
with Turkey, purchasing all State do-
mains in Cyprus, excepting the Sultan's
private estates.
The Governor of New York line ap-
pointed a commissioner to investigate
the cattle diaease in that State.
It is reported that if the frontier
'commissioner's do not soon agree that.
