STAFFA - Staffa Women's In- stitute held their entertainment meeting in the township hall on Wednesday November 23 at 1:30 p.m. Their guests for the afternoon were Kippen East Women's Insti- tute and Seafortjt Women's Insti- tute along with friends from the community. Special guests for the meeting were Pat Hulley, Cromarty, who demonstrated Janome Sewing ma- chine, along with the assistance of Mark from Sew and Save in Strat- ford. Pat was introduced by Joyce Miller and thanked by Roberta Templeman. Joyce Miller presided for the af- ternoon, welcoming everyone and opening with the Institute Ode and Mary Stewart Collect, a ompa- nied by Verle Mahon on the piano. Everyone answered the roll call by naming a craft which they enjoy. Margaret Kemp entertained eve- ryone with a melody of tunes from the early 1900s which she played on the piano. Tickets were sold Meetings and services planned for Thames Road The annual Christ- mas hristmas concert is set for December 21. By Rhoda Rohde THAMES ROAD - Rev. Jim All- sop was in charge of the Second Sunday of Advent church service on Sunday morning. The Responsive Reading was tak- en from the service book "The Lord Our Teacher", Psalm 25. The choir sang "0 Wondrous Love" accompanied by pianist Mar- ilyn Vandenbussche. Karen Etherington read a piece and lit the first Advent candle and Robyn Etherington read a piece and lit the second Advent candle. The congregation sang the chil- dren's hymn "Father Lead Me Day by Day". The scripture reading from the Old Testament Jeremiah 33:14-16 and from the New Testament I Thessalonians 3:9-13 was read by Virginia Warwick. Rev. Allsop read from Acts 13:1-5 and the title of his sermon was "Jesus and His Followers Bring Good News". He also spoke about his work in Toron- to and Windsor when he was a so- cial worker. The closing hymn was "Jesus is the Man". On Thursday, December 1 at 9:30 a.m. Sunbeams will meet at Thames Road. Grandparents and volunteers are needed to help the children make candy houses. On Sunday, December 4, White Gift Sunday, at Thames Road, con- tributions of non-perishable gifts for the food bank wrapped in white paper will be collected. On Monday, December 5 at 8 p.m. the U.C.W. meeting will be held with Helen Webber, Leona Cottle, and Joan Morgan in charge of the program. Roll call will be "Your Christmas. tradition". Mem- bers arc reminded to bring a gift (new or used) for the Christmas Bureau and a Secret Pal gift. There are also 16 other offices that are filled. On Wednesday, December 7 the Session will meet at 7 p.m. and the Official Board at 8 p.m. at Thames Road Church. On Thursday, December 8 at 7 p.m. the Messenger Christmas meeting will be held at Elimville Church. Each week a different church in the Exeter area has been asked to host a time of silent and individual prayer. Thames Road has been se- lected as the place of prayer on Fri- day, December 9 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Rev. Allsop will give a few words of welcome at 9:30 a.m. All ministers and lay people are welcome and people pray for their churches, communities, nation, families and the world. Most of the time is spent in silent prayer. On Sunday, December 18 is Christmas Sunday services in both churches at 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. On Wednesday, December 21 at 7 p.m Thames Road Sunday School children will present their Christmas concert. This year the children are asking for help from any person, family, or group of people who could entertain at the concert. On Saturday, December 24 a Christmas Eve joint service will be held at Elimville church at 7:00 p.m. On Sunday, December 25 at 10 a.m. a joint church service will be held at Thames Road Church.
