Local churches to examine format
of children and youth groups
There will be a meeting at Thames
Road church tonight, Wednesday, at
7:30 p.m.
By Rhoda Rohde
THAMES ROAD - The First Sunday of Advent
church service was held Sunday morning with Rev.
Jim Allsop in charge. The Responsive Reading was
taken from the service book "The Lord Takes Thought
for Me", Psalm 40.
The choir sang "The Prince of Peace" accompanied
by pianist Marilyn Vandenbussche.
The lighting of the first Advent candle took place.
The first candle was purple and was lit by Melonie
Miller. Rebecca, Maggie, Sarah and Laura Miller all
read pieces and Barry Miller led in prayer.
The congregation sang the children's hymn "Tell Me
The Stories of Jesus" and Rev. Allsop told the chil-
dren's story "Christ the King".
The scripture lesson was read by Beatrice Dawson, II
Samuel 23:1-7 from the Old Testament, and John
18:33-37 from the New Testament.
Rev. Allsop read from Colossians 1:13-20 and the ti-
tle of his sermon was "A Different Kind of King".
The closing hymn was sung "At the Name of Jesus."
