Chris- topher is a grandson of Mary and the late Ben Dietrich and Grace and Wilmer Adkins of Exeter. Graduate - Jodi B. Sararas graduated from Fanshawe College Office Administration Executive Program on No- vember 4, 1994. She is pres- ently employed at Beyond the Screen Door in Huron Park. Jodi is the daughter of Grace Sararas, Exeter end Ross Sa- raras, London. : Congratulations Jodi With love from all your family and Dwayne Hensall United Church celebrates anniversary Rev. Gaskin leaving Bill was the first Hensall boy to pay the supreme sacrifice. Cathy Bell, wife of a former merchant seaman, read the naval version of the 23rd Psalm. A few lines of A.E. Housmart's "Now Dead We Lie", reminded everyone of the price of freedom and how it cost Canada's service people. A scripture lesson from Isaiah was read and the of- fering was taken. The R.C.A.F. poem "High Flight" and prayer ended the worship service. Rev. Mark Gaskin was the guest. speaker for the evening. He men- tioned that Remembrance Day should be a time of Thanksgiving. He spoke about his new charge in Brantford. Jan presented him with a church plate. Secretary Marg Varley read the minutes, which were accepted as read. Jan told about purchasing bulbs to plant in memory of the veterans, bulbs will be planted by Richard Packham. The ladies who help with bingo at Queensway were thanked. Jan suggested the la- dies bring small containers of cos- metics to be sent to the Balkans. Rev. Mark closed the meeting with prayer. Lunch was served by Pat Pollock and Marilyn Campbell. The ladies enjoyed Mark's visit and will miss him and his sense of humour when he leaves this charge. Rev. Mark Gasking will preach his last sermon at Carmel Presbyterian November 26. as minister soon. HENSALL - A large crowd at- tended services at Hensall United Church, this past Sunday, as the church celebrated its 108th birth- day. Rev. Henry Annen conducted the sermon. Doug Klopp was the or- ganist. The greeter was Mark Con- sist and the ushers were Raye and Jean Jacobs and Dave and Deanna Brock. The guest speaker was Shei- la Duffin, whose message was "Or- dinary People". Special music was provided by the "Everliving Gospel Quartet". Lunch was served follow- ing the service. Choir practice for the white gift service will be held November 27 after the church service. Junior choir practice will he held Novem- ber 26 from 9 - 10 a.m. The white gift service will be held December 11. December 4 Rev. Annen will, conduct communion service at the Brucefield-Kippen churches. Paul Gilroy will preach at Hensall Unit- ed Church. Christmas decorating will take place at Hensall United Church No- vember 26 at 1 p.m . All help will be appreciated. Prayer hour will be held Novem- ber 25 from 9:30-10:30, at Hensall United Church. The Thursday afternoon ladies group have been invited to the manse December 1 at 2 p.m. The Friendship Circle is invited to the manse December 5 at 1:30 p.m. The Hensall Horticulture Society will hold their annual potluck din- ner at 6:30 p.m., on November 28 at Hensall United Church. The in- stallation of officers will take place at this meeting. The guest speaker will be Mary -Lou Hyde. Carmel P.C.W. President Jan Baker opened the November meeting of the Carmel P.C.W. with a poem. Janeth Sang- ster gave the devotional with Re- membrance as the theme. Dorothy Taylor accompanied the group as they sang "The Battle Hymn of the Republic". Pat Pollock read the honour roll from World War I and fI. Janeth mentioned Bill Nichol who landed in France one hour af- ter the assault troops on June 6. Open house planned HENSALL - Preparations are un- derway for the upcoming Christmas season at Queensway Nursing Horne. Residents are thinking of decorations to hang and getting plans made for the Christmas Open House. It is scheduled for Sunday, December 4 from 2 to 4 p.m. Eve- ryone is invited to come and help kick off the Christmas season. Women from the Bethel Re- fokmed Church help with bingo on Monday afternoons and it won't be long until they start singing Christ- mas carols during their sing -song following bingo. Rev. Henry Annen celebrated the weekly church service on Tuesday afternoon and Joyce Pepper provid- ed the musical accompaniment. Following the church service, some of the residents gathered for Supper Club. Thursday and Friday afternoon were spent constructing and deco- rating a gingerbread house. The res- idents suggested ideas for decorat- ing with candies and icing. Upcoming November 24 at 7 p.m. there will be a birthday party with the Swing- ing Seniors; November 29 at 2 p.m. the Grand Cove Singers are enter- taining; December 1 will be Christmas decorating; and December 4 from 2 to 4 p.m. will be a Christmas Open House. .4.•+•••••••••+•••-• LOSE UP TO 10 LBS. Centralia area enjoy turkey dinner fundraiser The dinner was held at Centralia United Church. By Mary Peterson CENTRALIA - What a flurry of activity there was at Centralia United Church this past week. People were preparing for the turkey dinner on Friday, November 18. There were pies to hake, tur- keys to cook. vegetables to prepare, and tables to set. It all came together through the work of many volunteers for a delicious meal shared with friends from the church and the community. The dinner was also a successful fundraiser. There are several meetings this week. Wednes- day, November 23, members of the congregation are invited to attend a meeting at Thames Road United Church at 7:30 p.m. to discuss •a joint pro- gram for youth. The Ministry and Personnel Com- mittee will meet at 8:00 p.m. at Centralia United Church on Thursday, November 24. Next Sunday, November 27, will be the first Sun- day in Advent. Rev. Augie Meacham will supervise baptism and communion. White Gift Sunday will be the following week, on December 4. The teachers and children of the Sun- day School arc planning a special presentation for this service. Gifts will be donated to the Huron County Christmas Bureau for distribution. Members of the congregation are asked to contribute canned goods or money if possible. Euchre party At the euchre party at Heywood's Restaurant re- cently, Hedy Devine won the Special. Doris Pfaff and Percy Noels won the Lone Hands. High Hand winners were Grace Wurnt and Harry Noels. Euchre will he held at Heywoods on November 28. Santa Claus parade The Santa Claus Parade will be held in Exeter at 11:00 a.m. on December 3. The Stewards are plan- ning a barbecue at Holtzmann's IGA.
