Trees planted
at Blue Water
Rest Home
The trees will provide
a windbreak along the
west perimeter.
ZURICH - It was tree planting
time on November 7 when the
Board of Directors of Blue Water
Rest Home, shovels in hand, plant-
ed 25 Norway maples and two
mountain ash trees at Maplewoods
Apartments. The Norway maples
were purchased from the Ausable
Bayfield Conservation Authority as
part of their Reforestation Assis-
tance Program and the mountain
ash were replacements for trees lost
to Mother Nature the past year. The
trees will provide a windbreak
along the west perimeter of the
apartment property. Ian McAllister
picked the trees up with his half ton
from TE -EM Farm, Bayfield, Stu-
art Steckle speeded up the process
with his post hole digger, while
Mozart Gelinas, Glen Thiel (in lieu
of Donna), Claire Deichert and
George Haggitt provided the man-
power. Every job needs a foreman,
so Ervin Steinmann, maintenance
person and Josef Risi, administra-
tor, fulfilled that role.
Monday afternoon the folk en-
joyed the video "Greedy" with Mi-
chael J. Fox on the wide screen.
Tuesday evening was November
birthday time for William Leibold,
Pearl Miller and Vera Thiel as
members of St. Peter's Lutheran
Church, Zurich entertained the resi-
dents. Phyllis Deichert was chair-
person and read "In Flanders
Fields." Laurie Erb was pianist for
Jessie and Joshua Thomson, Steph-
anie and Ashley Erb, Lindsay Ha-
berer, Dana and Jeff Thiel and Jen-
na and Ben Rader, who made up
the junior choir. Jenna and Ben and
Dana Thiel played piano solos. Au-
drey Haberer accompanied Lindsay
Haberer's solo. Models for the eve-
ning's fashion show were Marg
Deichert, Anne Flaxbard, Marilyn
Heimrich, Gert Fleischauer, Laurie
Erb, Donna Merner, Marie and
Doris Deichert. The residents en-
joyed speaking with Pastor Aubrey
and Hila Bell from Varna and
shared ite aid re-„
freshmen with their guests.
On Wednesday afternoon Susan
Walnick, Health and Community
Services Consultant, Ministry of
Health, Community and Social Ser-
vices spoke to the tenants of Blue
Water Rest Home Apartments in
regard to supportive housing.
Pastor Ross Thompson, St. Pe-
ter's Lutheran Church, Zurich con-
ducted Thursday afternoon Chapel
Service. Fr. Elwyn Moms, St. Pe-
ter's Catholic Church, St. Joseph
celebrated Mass Thursday evening.
Saturday afternoon the residents
enjoyed taking part in the Auxiliary
Bazaar Craft and Bake Sale. The
Hobby Room displayed their prod-
ucts made by the residents of the
Home. Many community members
out for an afternoon pre -Christmas
shopping spree became instant win-
ners: Jean Crocker won the Christ-
mas wreath, Gerry Kane the bath
towel, Lottie Grenier the tissue
holder, Lisa Dietrich the Avon gift
set, Rose Erb the meat pies, Helen
Geiger the canister set, Lisa Die-
trich the Aladdin dishes, Adeline
(John) Denomme the dress and
sweater, Kay Hay the table centre-
piece, Joan Regier the door hang-
ing, Lillian Greb the plant basket,
Ashley Overholt the cake and Ger-
ry Kane the quilt.
Condolences to the family of the
late Laura Ethel Finkbeiner who
passed away at South Huron Hospi-
tal, Exeter on November 10 in her
87th year. Laura came to Blue Wa-
ter Rest Home from Crediton in
June of this year and was starting to
just get to know the folk at the
Home and her friends were moving
into the Home to join her.
Condolences to the family of the
late Mary Oriole Westlake who
passed away at South Huron Hospi-
tal, Bxeter on November 14 in her
90th year. Oriole was a resident of
the Home the past 12 years, came
from the Staffa area and knew most
of the people in the area by name or
by family. She was notorious at the
Home for making clowns and had
made over 120 to please the little
folk of the area.
Monday, November 14 the resi-
dents and tenants of the complex
cast their vote in the auditorium of
the Home.
The residents look forward to the
'visit from members of the Christian
Reformed Church, Exeter on No-
vember 15, a shopping trip to Ma-
n
ville November 18, the Zurich
hnited Church service on Novem-
20 and of course the annual
Christmas Resident/Family Dinner
on November 27.
