Curling Club
open house
Sunday •
EXETER - The Exeter Curl-
ing Club is hosting what they
are•calling a "house party" on
Sunday from 2-4 p.m. It's an
open house and last year's
was very successful.
"This summer we spent a
fare bit of money redecorating
and revamping," said past
president Bill Brock.
The afternoon of fun is
geared towards introducing
people to the winter sport.
"It's an information day for
new curlers. We'II have eight
instructors, it's a good time
for all," added Brock.
gions are Western, Central, North-
eastern, Eastern and Southern.
While the games will be played
in Seaforth, not one of the arenas
Exeter and Area ringette utilize,
nor any of their local players be
participating, it will give locals a
chance to see some outstanding
ringette.
"It's to let our kids see what is
possible for them. There is a place
for them to play if they are a good
player," said Exeter president Mi-
chele Hodgert.
Games Friday night go from 5 -
7:30 p.m. Saturday action con-
tinues from 8 a.m. to 5:10 p.m.
with the finals slated for Sunday at
3:50 p.m.
The purpose of the Challenge
Cup is two -fold; first to give locals
a chance to see some good ringette,
and second to allow Ringette On-
tario the opportunity to see the top
players in one place.
"They (players) had to go to the
tryouts at the beginning of the sea-
son in August," said Hodgen.
While the girls do play on the re-
gional teams, the frequency is lim-
ited so they can play for both the
regional and their own team.
"It's a higher calibre, it gives the
girls a higher level of play without
taking away from their own as-
sociation."
Exeter and Area Ringette As-
sociation will be the sponsors
which means they book the ice
time and will provide some hos-
pitality for the players, coaches
and officials.
The local Association is gearing
up for its own annual tournament
which runs November 18-20 in Ex-
eter and Hensall and includes pe-
tite, tween, junior and belle divi-
sions.
