Thanksgiving collages

Julianne Varley (left) helps the grade three students of
the Exeter United Church Sunday School with the crea-
tion of a collage to go on display in the church this
Thanksgiving weekend. About 75 students of the Sun-
day School were sent out on a nature walk around Morri-
son Dam Sunday to gather natural things for which they
were thankful.
`Buddies' visit Blue
Water Rest Home
ZURICH - Monday afternoon
"The Fabulous Dorsey" big band
video was shown to the residents of
Blue Water Rest Home.
Tuesday morning the Grade five
Buddies from St. Boniface School,
Zurich made their first visit to the
Home along with their teacher Mar-
garet Souplant.
Corn stalks and plum tree branch-
es laden with plums helped give the
Auxiliary's October meeting the
feeling of Thanksgiving on Tues-
day evening. Doreen Oesch, as
chairperson and her committee of
Grace Martin, Marilee Ayotte and
Rose Merrier kept the audience
amused. Doreen read a poem
"Common Things", Rose read "The
Weaver" and played "How Great
Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace"
while the residents sang along.
Gracc and Irvin Martin played sev-
eral musical numbers on the mouth
organ and autoharp. Ephriam
Gingerich recited "The Slave's
Dream" and "September" with the
help of props he had selected from
the local fields. Sharon Dignan
sang "Feeling at Home with Jesus"
and 'Keep on the Sunny Side".
Verda Baechler, Lottie Grenier and
Mary (Curtis) Gingcrich helped
serve coffee and donuts.
Wednesday afternoon tea was
served by Gladys Gingcrich. Rev.
Ephriam Gingcrich, a retired minis-
ter conducted Thursday afternoon
Chapel Service. Fr. Matthias Wron-
ski, St. Boniface Church, Zurich
celebrated Mass.
Friday • afternoon Nelson Howe,
Susan Leslie, Harry Maas, Kurt
Gebel, Ruby Bell, Bruce Steeper
and Catherine Riehl enjoyed their
bus trip to Bayfield and Clinton and
caught a glimpse of some of the
leaves as they started to change
•
their colour.
Best wishes to Marion Chennell
of Maplewoods Apartments who is
in South Huron Hospital, Exeter
and Madeline Harburn who is in
Stratford General Hospital.
Belated birthday wishes to Oriole
Harvey, a tenant of BWRH Apart-
ments who celebrated her 90th
birthday on September 26 and
dined at Hessenland Restaurant on
September 25 with her family. Con-
gratulations to Harvey Keys and
wife Julene who celebrated 51
years of marriage at the Home on
Sunday with a quiet dinner.
Condolences to Clarence Smillie
and his family for the Toss of his
wife, the late Anne Smillie who
passed away at BWRH on Septem-
ber 27. Clarence lives at BWRH
Apartments and Anne has been a
resident of the Home the past four
years. Clarence and Anne previous-
ly lived north of Hensall for many
years and were well known in the
community.

Exeter group hosts
Seniors meeting
EXETER - The annual meeting of the Huron, Perth, Middlesex (H.P.M.)
Ontario Senior games were held Tuesday, September 20 at the arena. Fifty
seniors from the tri -county area attended and enjoyed a luncheon served
by the Exeter Senior Games committee
Lori Wadge, Provincial Co-ordinator for O.S.G. from Toronto was the
guest speaker She spoke about her work with seniors. They are planning
an Octifest in Calgary in 1995 which would include winners form all prov-
inces.
Bill Salter, chairman of the O.S.G. frim London was also in attendance.
He informed our group that Clarke Ready from St. Marys had been chosen
for the Bob Secord award. His name was chosen from 13 people nominat-
ed from Ontario. Clarke Ready is one of the first organizers of Senior
games. Mrs. Secord and her daughters ‘' ill present the award at the annual
conference in Toronto October 3.
District Council Policy and Guidelines were reviewed and updated. End -
of -year reports were given. •
An election of officers for the 1994-95 season resulted in the following
appointments: past co-ordinator, John Patterson; district co-ordinator, Jack
Heney; first assistant, Ron Dann; second assistant, Gordon Club; treasurer,
Wilf Becker; secretary, Gwen McKellar.
The next H.Y.M. meeting will be October 18 at Zurich township hall at
1:30 p.m.
