Residents see Grand Cove production
ZURICH - Monday afternoon the
residents of Blue Water Rest Home
enjoyed the video "Easter Parade:
with Fred Astaire and Judy Gar-
land. Tuesday afternoon Rev. Gant
Lazaro, Zurich United Church held
Bible Study for all denominations
in the Chapel.
Wednesday evening 19 residents
and nine chauffeur/helpers climbed
aboard the van to visit the Grand
Cove Estate's Club Hall for the
production of "On The Road
Again." Betty Hales did a fine job
as director/producer/writer and
Chairperson for the evening stunk..
Many residents met up with their
peers from Queensway Nursing
Home, Hensall, and nursing homes
at Ailsa Craig and Parkhill for the
dress rehearsal, which allowed
many residents front row seats.
Vera Thiel, Nelson Howe, Theo-
dore (Ted) Steinbach, Kurt Gebel,
Dorothy Bapty, Susan Leslie, Pearl
Miller, Ruby Bell, Jean Burr, Hen-
ricus (Harry) Maas, Hilda Rader,
Earl (Duke) Yungblut, Rose Mern-
er, Esther Makins, Marcella Die-
trich, Edna Johnston, Alice
.Towles, Loftus Denomme and
Ruby Hoggarth enjoyed the eve-
ning out. Glen Thiel, Bill Burr,
Edith Yungblut, Gladys Martin, Vi-
ola Wood, Donna Merner, Cathy
Maas and Agnes Cottrell, under the
direction of Adjuvant Cathy
Shantz, assisted the residents on
their journey.
Anne Didier warmed the hearts
of many a "young" man as she cir-
culated among the audience sing-
ing "Love Me Tender". Vera Mor-
rison did an excellent job of
mimicking Vera Lynn; however, it
was not mimicking for a young
woman in the fourth row from Ail-
sa Craig who joined in with the
melodies in a clear tuneful voice
from her youth. The 16 acts kept
the audience in good humour
throughout the evening, while some
liked the puppy in the scotch box,
others sympathized with the young
bride and her headache! Thank you
to the players for their generosity!
Rev. Miriam Jones, Goshen/
Varna United Church conducted
Thursday afternoon chapel service.
Fr. Matthias Wronski, St. Boniface
Church, Zurich celebrated Mass.
Petition circulated in GB
The petition will be presented to
the provincial government in late
October.

GRAND BEND - Members of the Immaculate Heart
of Mary Council of the Catholic Women's League niet
at the Grand Bend Church recently for their monthly
meeting. After celebrating Mass with Father Paul
Beck, they gathered in the Parish Hall, with President
Lia Vandenberk convening the business. A number of
thank you notes were received for funeral lunches ca-
tered by CWL members, and Masses said for deceased
family members. A new family has been assigned for
our council to sponsor through Save -A -Family Plan,
India, and one of our members will write an introduc-
tory letter, in addition to the sponsorship fee of $150.
A thank you letter was read to members from Huron
Perth Bruce Epilepsy, for their volunteer help during
Glad Days for Epilepsy. Grand Bend scnt in nearly
$900 from this fundraiser.
All communication conveners will he receiving a
WRAP campaign kit - White Ribbons Against Pornog-
raphy, to be enacted in all parishes the last weekend in
October. The Huron -Perth Regional Council of presi-
dents met on Saturday, September 17. The CWL annu-
al Fun Night will take place on February 8 in Listowel,
and the Fall Regional meeting for all members will be
held at St. Peter's in Godcrich on October 12.
In keeping with the White Ribbon Campaign, a peti-
tion from CWL diocesan president-elect Muriel Mur-
phy, Goderich, was circulated and signed by the mem-
hers. The petition requested the Provincial government
to amend the Municipal Act Section 225 to allow mu-
nicipalities to pass by-laws to prohibit adult entertain-
ment centres which sell or promote pornographic mate-
rial. This petition will also he placed at the back of the
church for parishioners to sign at all masses from Octo-
ber 2 until Sunday, October 16, when it is to he com-
pleted. The petition is being promoted by Bishop Sher-
lock and will be presented to the government of
Ontario in tfit last week of October.
Membership chair Margrit Breuer reported 83 paid
up members for 1994. The new parish directories will
be arriving November 7, to be handed out to all fami-
lies who were photographed for the hook, plus a few
extra available for a fee. Over $1700 was raised
through the summer hake sales and the quilt raffle. The
collector plate, afghan and quilt were all won by pa-
rishioners this year.
The total sum of $500 was donated to the following
charities: Liver Foundation, Palliative Care, Heart and
Stroke, Flowers of Hope, Diabetes, Arthritis and St. Jo-
seph's Hospital (Children's Unit).
Under the Christian Family Life Project, plans were
discussed for a parish family fun night to celebrate the
International Year of the Family. Tentative dates are
November 4 or 1 I, a Friday evening, with a clown or
magician, and a DJ for dance music. The Christmas
party will he a special wine and cheese for CWL mem-
hers with a craft person to demonstrate a Christmas
project that everyone can create and take home, sched-
uled for December 6. It was suggested that the grocery
tapes fundraiser go to local food banks and Christmas
baskets for parishioners. President Lia Vandenberk en-
couraged all members to sign up for the Lambton
Right to Lifc and support this valuable Pro Life move-
ment.
Father Beck discussed the serious shortage of priests
in the diocese and throughout the church. The London
diocese has suffered the death of 10 priests this year
alone, most of whom were active in parishes. Eight
young men entered the seminary in London, for a total
of 25 seminarians, not all of whom will graduate.
Some parishes locally have their last assigned priest
then they'll be clustered with other parishes. Out
Grand Bend parish would be clustered with Parkhil.
and Forest. Father Beck asked the CWL to pray for vo-
cations and to pray for the Church to find guidance in
its quest to recruit more priests. Father Beck is encour-
aging parishioners to come to church for even 15 min-
utes on the first Saturday of the month between 10 a.m.
and noon to attcnd the Exposition of the Blessed Sacra-
ment and to pray for vocations. There was a discussion
of the pros and cons of married men as priests.
The next CWL meeting will be Tuesday, October 11.
Members ended the evening with a period of fellow-
ship and refreshments.
