tams win the provincial title last
year.
Surprisingly, he is the first import
(outside of the Lucan Irish drawing
area), .they have signed in a long,
long time.
"We've got a real big drawing
area," said Bogart.
When the Irish open their pre-
season schedule tonight against the
defending cast league champions
Pt. Stanley Lakers, they will still
have 27 skaters and six goalies in
camp.
Bogart said he is very pleased
with Glavin, "I like his size. He's
not flashy and he gets the job done,
he's serious."
Among the six goalies still in
camp is second -year Stuart Ashton
who had a 4.07 goals against aver-
age last year in his rookie season.
Lucan is still waiting to sec where
Steve Watson will be when the sea-
son starts.
"I think Steve Watson is still with
the (London Junior 'B') Nationals.
There's a battle for the other spot,"
said Bogart of who will share the
duties with Glavin.
When training camp opened, the
Irish had four overagcrs in for-
wards Greg DePrest, Scott Riddell
and Steve Moore and defenseman
Craig Brown available but Bogart
has reported that Brown has not
comc to camp and Moore was only
out for one skate.
With Brown not returning, the
Irish have only one veteran de-
fenscman in Kcith Robson. He'll
anchor a rookie defense which will
include at least one new nctmindcr
in Glavin.
Big winger: Last Wednesday
night at the tryouts, the hopefuls
were scrimmaging and at first, it
didn't look as though they wcrc be-
ing overly aggressive. But once
they got into it, the body checks
were being thrown.
"I think there is more as they get
comfortable," said veteran Steve
Matthews who will be counted on
to be a heavy hitter this winter.
"There wasn't that much (hitting)
the first couple of nights."
The winger played two years for
the Irish, went to Strathroy Junior
'B' for a year bcfore returning to
Lucan last year. He doesn't know
yet where he will fit in with this
year's team.
"I'm not really sure yet. I want to
be a leader, I think I can help these
guys out."
In 33 games last year. Matthews
had 11 points but spent 80 minutes
in the penalty box.
So far, he likes what he sees from
thc rookies, "it looks like a great
bunch of guys. Everyone is getting
along."
Tonight when the Irish open up
the pre -season against the Lakers,
who have come back to the west di-
vision, Bogart isn't expecting any
miracles.
"They've (Lakers) been on the icc
a while and have had two or three
exhibition games."
Lucan will travel to Port Stanley
on Saturday and host Langton on
Monday night. -

The duo combined to beat Kin-
cardine Kings 6-2 Saturday after -
nam and the next day edged North
Middlesex Stars 4-3.
"I figured they
would be there
in the end."
"It wasn't that easy," said Exeter
coach -GM Dave Revington who
had seven goaltenders in this years
training camp. "I figured they
would be there in the end. I wanted
to get that tidied up first. There's a
lot of other things to settle."
On the blucline, Revington's de-
cisions won't be that tough as he
has seven still in camp and hasn't
decided if all will stay around or
shave the number down to six.
Battling for spots arc veteran
ovcrager Jamie Cornish along with
returnees Mark Lynn, Greg Dal-
rymple and Jason McBride and roo-
kie Exeter Minor Hockey Associa-
tion products Mark Bell, Trevor
Taylor and Bill Hodge.
"We'll have more than 20 guys
around," said Revington who wants
to keep a full lineup even when
school, jobs, illness and injuries be-
come a hampering factor. "A lot of
things vary in and I have to do
what's best for the team."
Up front, Scan McCann and Ray
Cousineau embarrassed the Junior
'C' Kings early in Saturday's game
as they each scored once while
Cousineau scored shorthanded
from McCann.
Talented forwards: There are
nine returning forwards but a
couple of them were outshone by
thc rookies on the weekend so thc
veterans may have to work real
hard if they want to stay with the
team.
"I've only seen them play over a
period of a week. By virtue of the
fact they are veterans, they will get
a longer look but because they've
played here before doesn't mean
they'll play this year," said Reving-
ton.
Among the rookies making im-
pressions were Icft winger Chad
Gilfillan who played a few games
with the Hawks last season, Ste-
phen Township's Jeff Glavin who
had three assists on Saturday, Exet-
er's Chris McDonald and Craig
Corriveau from Goderich.
"That's a good difficult situation
to deal with. That's why it's going
to take four exhibition games."
One returning player who looked
good and was throwing his weight
around was winger-defenscman
Brian Gardner who skated hard and
dished out some hard hits.
"He's been a very positive in-
fluence," said Revington. "He
played a game or two for me last
year (in Senior 'A')."
Revington and assistant coach
Barry Baynham along with John
Pryde come over from the Senior
'A' Exeter Mohawks and they are
really showing their commitment to
the Hawks.
"We want to have as much local
talent as possible but we have to
think of the future, this is an on-
going project," said Revington.
He said the future does not mean
10 games down the road but even
into next season.
Exeter defenseman Trevor Taylor, (17) hauled down Kin-
cardine's Tim Steen during Saturday's pre -season game.

Notes: Kincardine brought a
very big squad to the Hensall
arena on Saturday including Tim
Steen who had to be at least 6'3".
Although Steen and the other
Kings were throwing their
weight around, the Hawks didn't
bow to the intimidation.
