GRAND BEND - The Huron
Country Playhouse Guild produced
their 22nd annual Fashion Show,
"Out of My Dreams" at the Play-
house Mainstage on September 15.
Ovtr 250 people attended the show,
the second year it's been held at the
Playhouse. The evening began with
a wine and cheese reception at 7
p.m., catered by Guild members.
The show opened with a solo
"Out of My Dreams" from the mu-
sical "Oklahoma", performed by
Guild member Roberta Walker, ac-
companied by pianist Dave Shep-
pard. The "Oklahoma" farm house
provided a perfect theme setting for
the fashion show.
Artistic Director. Max Reimer
joined Guild president Shirley Platt
for a cheque presentation of $5,000
from the Guild, to complete the
purchase of the new acoustic Ya-
maha piano. Platt commented that
in 1976 the Guild purchased the
first pit piano for the Playhouse,
and launched their first cookbook
as a fundraiser. Now in 1994, there
is a sense of deja vu and the climate
control improvements have made it
possible to maintain a quality piano
for the theatre.
Platt introduced the first of four
stores to feature their designs, the
Sunshop of Grand Bend. The Sun -
shop has a wide selection of bright,
warm, cuddly sweaters in designs,
patterns and colours. These sweat-
ers arc usually worn over stirrup
pants, sold in 12 colours to comple-
ment the outfit. The patterns vary
from teddy bears, cats, wild geo-
metrics, flowers and leaves, or
scenes from old school days, the
race track, country kitchen, winter
skating, all in bright detail. The
dressier floral patterned sweaters
are often worn over matching full
skirts.
Lea Nelson of Grand Bend de-
signs her own line of fashions, tail-
or made to fit each customer. The
models wore jewelry. by Jewels of
Parklane, sold at the Health Nut
Store. Nelson's fashions tend to be
long and flowing or short and fit-
ted, with great attention to detail on
hest quality fabrics. Long, lean
jackets look equally stylish over
well -cut trousers, long wrap skirts,
or sexy short skirts. Her evening
gowns were presented to the strains

of "Ave Maria".
Anne's Fashionation of Exeter
featured comfortable clothes that
worked well with the "Oklahoma"
theme: denim shirts, pants and
dresses, rodeo or Indian patterned
sweaters, stylish brocade vests,
even a calico "pioneer gal" dress
with ruffled bloomers. Many of the
blouses and denim pieces were
highlighted with beautiful embroid-
ery detail. Three of the models
donned cowboy hats and per-
formed a Zine dancing number, to
the delight of the audience.
The final store showcased Ran-
di's Distinctive Fashions, for
clothes that range in sizes from 4 to
18, from funky or casual to dressy
styles for evening wear. This fall's
fashions are interpreted in more
solid colours of reds, greens, blues,
and beige, in soft, flowing shapes.
Vests can be fitted, long or even
floor length tunic styles, in patterns
or dramatic colours to complement
your outfit. Black is worn with
white, red, gold or gray. Beige is
worn with a checkered skirt or vest,
or a deeper brown blouse for con-
trast. Dresses are tailored for busi-
ness or draped and floorlength for
evening, and the formal long vest
over wide, pleated pants also looks
dramatic for evening.
Door prizes, collected by Audrey
Tibbits, were awarded throughout
the evening to lucky members of
the audience. Commentator Shirley
