September 19, 1984 - The
South Huron Rec Centre
board of management has
questioned council's authority
to increase deductible insu-
rance limits without consult-
ing the committee. Chairman
John Pym said the rise from
$500 to $1,000 deductible
could cause major problems
for the board's budget due to
the large amount of equip-
ment that is susceptible to
lightning strikes.
Mayor Bruce Shaw said re-
cently council does not make
decisions without proper con-
tact with groups or persons
concerned.

the drum to be drawn.
Four members of the Exeter
Planning Board submitted
their resignations Monday.
They were R.E. Pooley, J.L.
Wooden, Fred Dobbs and
Harvey Pfaff. Reeve Derry
Boyle said he didn't blame
the four in view of the fact
council had not seen fit to call
on the board for advice on
some recent matters.
Council unanimously turned
down a request for a building

seat dining and cocktail

Managing her own sfable
Lisa Bean finds training horses an
excellent way to learn self-discipline
By Catherine O'Brien
T -A staff
EXETER - Sometimes the best
things in life can turn into business
opportunities. That's the case for
Lisa Bcan.
The South Huron District High
School student has had a passion
for horses since she first took les-
sons a number of years ago. By the
time she was 13, Bean owned her
first Arabian horse and has been ac-
cumulating them ever since. But it
was just last December that the pas-
sion transformed into a bit of a
business venture.
With the help of her father, Gary
Bcan, she was able to set up a train-
ing and breeding operation with her
Arabian horses. As well, she final-
ly had a place where she could
keep all ten of hcr horses together.
Over the past fcw months they
have been doing a bit of work on
the 13 acres of land on Simcoc
Street that was purchased for the
horses. They put up new fencing,
built stables, put some finishing
touches on thc riding arena and are
in thc midst of reconstructing the
Karn.
By the spring, Bcan and friend
Cam Darling expect to be busy
training and breeding the horses.
"This year we had one birth, next
year we're hoping for three," Bean
said.
While Bean has only been work-
ing with horses for six years and an
owner for four years, she said Dar-
ling has quite bit of experience with
Arabian horses having trained in
Oklahoma.
"It's a lot of hands on work and
it's something you learn simply by
doing and talking to others who
have experience," Darting said.
Both spend a lot of time with the
horses getting them ready for horse
shows which run almost every
weekend from May until October.
Right now, Bean is preparing to
show seven of hcr horses at the Ex -

Tool rental business
kept alive in Exeter
Gabby Mol bought up
Hurex's stock to strike
out on his own with
Exeter Tool and Rental
EXETER - Gabby Mol is con-
vinced there is a need for a tool and
rental business in Exeter. That's
why, when Hurex relocated out of
Exeter last month, he bought their
rental equipment and opened Exet-
er Tool and Rental at the opposite
end of town.
Mol said he wanted to keep the
rental business "alive" in town, par-
ticularly through the fall season,
and moved to quickly set up shop ,
before Labour Day. /
He said he will be doing repairs
to small engines and chainsaws,
and all power tools, as well as look-
ing to establish retail sales of tools
for those wanting to equip a home
workshop.
Mol said that with more and
more people becoming involved in
do-it-yourself home projects and
woodcrafts, he is looking at a
growth market.
"A lot of people are into that
now," he said, and even added he
may offer some cuts of rough wood
for those who want to start a finc
furniture project "from scratch".
A family husincss, Exeter Tool
and Rental will be expanding its
stock of rental and retail equipment
as demand warrants to cater to eve-
, ryonc from the person who wants
to add a deck on a house, to some-
one needing a special tool for a
craft or hobby.

Iter Fall Fair.
"It takes as much time as you
have," she said. "Usually 1 spend a
good five hours a day here. There's
a lot of work involved in condi-
tioning the horses."
Over the years Bean has travelled
to shows in Ontario, Western Can-
ada and as far away as Columbus
Ohio.
Although Bean doesn't sec breed-
ing and training as a full time ven-
ture until well in the future, she
said owning the horses has been a
great learning experience.
And hcr father agrees.
"Working with horses is an ex-
cellent way to learn self-
discipline," he said. "It's amazing
that Lisa can get everything done in
a day."
