Five hockey groups start up
EMHA product Jeff MacLean signs with Strathroy Rockets

EXETER - What better way to
start off the 1994-95 hockey season
then with some great news.
It was announced Friday morning
that Exeter Minor Hockey Associa-
tion product Jeff MacLean has been
signed by the Strathroy Rockets of
the Western Junior 'B' Hockey
League.
The 15 year-old is 6' 170 pounds
and according to the Rockets, the
centreman is expected to play a key
role in the team this year.
"Jeff played his minor hockey in
Exeter but played for the 'AAA'
Bluewater Sharks last season. He's
a top prospect for the upcoming
Ontario Hockey League draft," said
Rockets' coach Jacques Beaulieu.
Two other local hockey players
have also cracked Junior 'B' rosters.
Defenseman Corey Smith who was
with the Lucan bantams last year is
with the St. Marys Lincolns and
Stephen Township Minor Hockey
Association product Andy Glavin is
with Listowel Cyclones.
Glavin spent the last two years
tending goal for North Middlesex
Stars of the OHA Junior Develop-
ment League.
The ice at the Hensall Arena took
a real pounding last week as Exeter
Minor Hockey hosted its annual
hockey school.
Head instructor Dave Partridge
had the players very busy as the
school ran from Monday to Friday
6-10 p.m.
"We're working on puck control,
shooting and skating with the
puck," said Partridge. "I think all
the kids are enjoying it, they seem
pretty excited."
Exeter's hockey program has
swelled in numbers this year as
there is one pre -tyke, one tyke, four
novice, two atom, four peewee,
three bantam, two midget and a
juvenile team this year.
Also the executive is pleased to
be putting the finishing touches on
a large minor hockey room which
is located where -the- Weight room
was and is excessible from the
parking lot of the South Huron Rec-
reation Centre.
Zurich Minor Athletic Associa-
tion is going through some internal
problems with their executive and
coaches and they hoped to clear up
a few things last night.
One of the biggest question
marks surrounding minor hockey in
this area this fall, is where will the
midget team be - Stephen Town-
ship or Zurich?
Last year the peewee Storm won
the OMHA 'E' championship.
Zurich is expecting to have one
tyke, one atom, two novice, two
peewee, two bantam and one mid-
get team. To fill the midget team
those from Zurich who played mid-
get in Hensall last year are ex-
pected to return.

planned for November 4-6.
Stephen Township Minor Hockey
Association is also coming off a
very successful season as the ban-
tams won the OMHA champion-
ship. The arena will be the site of
the 15th Annual Power Skating
School which is instructed by Rob
and Frank Funston. That runs from
September 13 to September 20.
Stephen is expecting to have pre -
tyke, tyke, two novice, two atoms,
two peewees, one bantam and a
midget team as well as a junior and
senior girls teams.
After having midget last year and
juvenile the year before, Hensall
will not have any older aged teams
this winter. _
Holding their second minor hock-
ey registration on Saturday, they
look to have pre -tyke, tyke, novice
and atom to put into the WOAA
,league.
In Lucan, they expect about 170
players who will be on two tyke, Lucan will host its big annual
four novice, three atom, two pee- atom and peewee tournament on
wee, bantam and midget teams. November 18-20.

Marys Friday night. Smith, 15, signed with the Lincs for the
upcoming season.
Passing is one of the key ingredients in hockey as these
young players took part in last week's Exeter Minor Hockey
Association hockey school.
