DISCIPLINE IS A FUN-
NY WORD
The time, Saturday May 21,
1994, the place, Vacouver,
BC, Canada. The game, game
three between Vancouver and
The Toronto Maple Leafs.
The situation, Toronto had
just lost to Vancouver 4-0 and
Tim Hunter ran and cheap-
shotted Dougie Gilmour with
three minutes left, causing
Rob Pearson to come to Dou-
gie Gilmour's rescue and grab
Tim and challenge him to drop
the gloves. In other words, if
you want to pick on someone,
pick on nie, someone your own size. Hunter refused, in fact he never took his gloves off and cov-
ered up. Tim said "He used discipline and did it for the team (there were
three minutes left and they were ahead by three goals and if he had have
fought both guys and would have been given five minutes and no one
short a man). This is the new creed now, but smaller stars when chal-
lenged corner up or turtle and say "They're showing discipline and doing
it for the team and the fans," and sports writers buy this disdainful act.
Same game, John Mclntrye, rubs the face of Wendel Clark with his
glove and when challenged, runs away and laughs (here we have a guy
who wears a mask, washed a guy's face, and then runs and points to the
scoreboard and laughs.
