Stan Lee Seniors begin season Members told high- lights of their summer vacations. By Joan Beieriing VARNA - On September 7 the Stan Lee Seniors resumed their meetings with a potluck supper with 32 members present. After dinner Bob and Marg Reid and Floyd McAsh had a humorous program. Everyone was asked to tell a highlight of their summer va- cation. Several members had tales of their travels. Then McAsh took over with a quiz to see how alert the group was. Anna Keys chaired the meeting. Officers for next year were an- nounced. Charles Reid will be vice president; Bob Stirling, treasurer; and Mary Hayter, secretary. Elva Peck gave a few highlights of the Mystery Bus Trip they en- joyed in June. Forty-six people took the trip around St. Marys, Stratford, Briekman's Nursery and to Anna Maes in Millbank. Anna Keys read some brochures concerning other trips. The group was asked to decide by the October meeting what they wish to do for the Christmas meeting. Arthritis canvass next week in Lucan LUCAN - A canvas for the Ar- thritis Society starts Monday in Lu - can. Captains for the canvass met last week at the home of Lucan cam- paign chairperson Marguerite McRoberts to receive their kits and plan the annual September canvas. The volunteers will canvass the town during the week of September 19 to 24, and they say they are hop- ing village residents will welcome them at their doors and give gener- ously. J The Fall Rally of the 19th Zone .will be held in Seaforth October 13. New members were welcomed by Anna Keys and Bob Stirling gave the treasurers report. Elmer Hayter announced shuffle- board would resume on Wednes- day, September 14. Anna closed the meeting and eight games of euchre were played. Winncrs were Marg Hayter, Marjo- rie Stirling and Bruce Keys. Church anniversary A combined Varna -Goshen church service will be held Sep- tember 18 to celebrate Varna Anni- versary, at 10:30 a.m. in Varna. Sandra Wilson, Sue Anne Van Mil- tenburg and Shelly McGavin will provide special music. These girls arc known as the Finlayson sisters. The Trends and Teen Set Youth groups will meet during the week of September 25. Contact Miriam Jones, 233-3110 about the best time to meet on a regular basis. UCW Varna U.C.W. met September 1 for supper and to see the play "Oklahoma" which everyone en- joyed. Joyce Dowson announced the Regional meeting to be held at Goshen Monday, October 3 at 7:00 with registration at 7:30p.m. Thank you messages were read from Marg McClymont, Laurie Broadfoot, Va- cation Bible School for the cash donation and cookies and also from Camp Menesetung for the vacuum cleaner. Bridal shower There will be a bridal shower for Julie Boyce, daughter of Shirley and Ken Boyce, to be held October 12. Yard sale A very successful community yard sale was held over the long weekend. Holy Communion celebrated St. Patrick's will hold a harvest service Sep- tember 25. By H. Stephen Emery spoke to the children about when Jesus a long time ago asked the dis- ciples "Who am I?" and they an- swered You are the Messiah - God's special saving friend for all of God's people. Sunday, September 18, St. Pat- rick's Morning prayer service at 8:30 a.m. Pentecost 17. Scripture readings are to he Joh 28:20-28, James 3:13-18, Psalm 27:1-9, The Holy Gospel Mark 9, 30-37. Sunday, September 25, St. Pat- rick's will celebrate their Harvest Service at 11:00 a.m. A time of fel- lowship will follow the service in the Parish Hall. Starr Davis returned home from Toronto's Hospital for Sick Chil- dren on Saturday evening. The community's prayers for good health go out to her. Ron and Nancy Cunningham. Ron and Margaret Carroll called on Marguerite Greenlee this week, Certificates awarded at Centralia - Faith Tabernacle CENTRALIA - Another exciting year of Sunday School began at Centralia Faith Tabernacle on Sun- day as students received promotion certificates and met their new teachers. Fifty-six individuals also were presented with perfect atten- dance diplomas or seals for missing three Sundays or less from Septem- ber 1993 to June 1994. Lost and Found Club begins again tonight with a class from youngest to oldest. Due to the loss of Pastor Bob Degraw's mother, Lost and Found Club was cancelled last week. The community's deep- est sympathy is extended to Pastor Bob DeGraw, Phyllis and their families. The Youth Group enjoyed an evening at the Western Fair on Sat- urday night. Some braved the rides; others kept their feet on the ground! Pastor Bob and Phyllis DeGraw celebrated their 40th wedding anni- versary on Sunday. Following the evening service a time of fellow- ship was enjoyed at the Hall. Evangelist Missionaries Bob and Kay Hoover will participate in both services on September 26. also visiting mother Eileen Carroll at the Grandparents Day at Exeter Villa and father Harry Carroll at the Craig Home Nursing Home on Sunday. Our prayers go out to them all from friends and relatives from St. Patrick's. Congratulations to Harley Davis placing second in the 60 cc Pee - Wee Division at Farington MX Park on Sunday. He also won two second place trophies at a two-day event recently at Auburn Raceway. His father Michael Davis placed first and second in the Vintage di- vision.
