DuBarry begins second season
The big forward from Huron Park is ready to return to Colgate
By Fred Groves
T -A staff
HURON PARK - In 10 days Steve DuBarry will pack his
bags, grab his books and his skates and head back to Ham-
ilton, New York and Colgate University.
Following a successful freshman year with the Red Raid-
ers, DuBarry a Huron Park resident, will be off to his win-
ter home to play college hockey.
Enjoying a scholarship, he says academics and athletics
have equal importance right now in his life.
"We have a full schedule of classes that we have to attend
and we practice two hours a day," said DuBarry.
"It's pretty closo to an even split," he said of which is
more important the schooling or the sports. "I'm probably
doing more school work than hockey."
He said his marks were good, especially from the first se-
mester at the school which has a 2,700 enrolment and was
founded in 1819.
The big right winger was a standout in his final year with
the St.Marys Junior 'B' Lincolns where he had 69 points in
49 games and was a first team all-star.
College hockey is a little different as he played in 26 of
the Red Raiders' 32 games accumulating three goals and
three assists.
"1'm not happy with it but it's satisfactory," said DuBarry
who noted freshmen average about 10 points.
Five forwards graduate from last year's team which
means the big 6'4" 200 -pound DuBarry will be getting a lot
more ice time and no doubt will be called upon to make a
major offensive contribution.
Surgery: However, if a shoulder injury reoccurs, he
could be sidelined for a while but right now it seems to be
alright.
"I huh my shoulder and I had surgery in April. It came
out of it's socket 13 times."
When he was with the Lincolns, the longest bus ride he
had to take was no more than three hours, this past year,
with the Red Raiders he would log as much as seven hours
heading to such places as Vermont.
"I got to sec a lot of the eastern states, it was a lot of fun."
A weekly routine for DuBarry would include going to
school Monday to Thursday, getting on the bus Thursday
afternoon and heading to some other city. The team stayed
in a hotel, practiced on Friday and had a game usually that
night.
"I enjoyed it a lot, it was an eye opener," he said of his
fust season. While Junior 'B' hockey calls for a big commit-
ment, DuBarry says it's even more so in college hockey and
his work ethics have changed.
He's been busy helping out at hockey schools this sum-
mer and playing the odd round of golf to stay in shape with
an impressive hockey career already behind him, the future
looks to be even brighter.
"It's probably the best part of my life."

CENTRALIA - Outscoring their
last opponent 47-7, the Centralia
Selects have advanced to the On-
tario Rural Softball Association
bantam 'A' semi-finals.
Last week they eliminated Dor-
chester two games straight and will
now take on Fergus.
"I've seen Fergus play, they've
got really good pitching. They've
got four pitchers and one ace. It
will be a good match up," said Cen-
tralia coach Lorraine Gallagher.
The Selects have got good pitch-
ing of their own with their ace,
Sherri Bell and Cara Gardner.

A well prepared resume will help you
get the job you are looking for!
A resume detailing an applicant's work history and
education is extremely helpful to an employer who
is seeking a person for a specific job vacancy.
Your personal resume should accompany
your letter of application.
Here are some guidelines to follow in preparing your resume:
O Make it clear, concise and easy to read - and no longer
than two pages
O The resume should be typed on 8 1/2" x 11" white paper
with enough white space to prevent a cluttered look
O Start with your name, address and phone number
O Next under a sub -heading "Work History" detail the
previous jobs you've held - in reverse date order
- that is, last job first.
O Use a separate paragraph for each position and
precede it with the dates you held that position.
O State the job title, a brief description of the
responsibilities - and the results you achieved.
O The next section of your resume should come under the
sub -heading of "Education". Start with the highest
degree obtained or grade completed, followed by the
name of the institution at which you studied. Follow
this with previous education attainments. At the end,
list any specific instructional courses you have
attended in conjunction with your work.
O Under the sub -heading "Affiliations", list memberships
and/or offices held in professional or industry
associations.
O Under the sub -heading "Personal Interests" list any
activities which you feel will be of interest to the
employer - such as volunteer work, etc.
Your letter of application and your resume will be the
factors that make the employer decide whether to short
list you for an Interview. So make tt as Impressive
as you can - but stick to the facts.
We can help you get an impressive and
professional -looking resume
