Junior Farmers meet
'for Summer Games
Junior Farmers are
celebrating 50 years
of the organization.
By Mary Peterson
CENTRALIA - This year, the
Junior Farmers Association of On-
tario is marking their 50th anniver-
sary. Many rural youth from the
area used to belong to this organi-
zation and participated in activities
such as sports, choir, drama, public
speaking, and community events.
The number of members has de-
creased over the years, but enthu-
siasm and leadership remain a
strong part of the organization.
On Saturday, Junior Farmers
from across Ontario participated in
the Provincial Summer Games. It
rained hard in Milton, but keen
members ran in races, played base-
ball and soccer and threw the dis-
cus.
Huron County is part of Zone 7
and placed third overall in the day's
events.
An Ambassadors Banquet was an
otunity Saturday night to meet
the current exchange delegates to
Ontario. Sue Hall from England
and Rob Galiway from northern Ir-
eland were there, and they men-
tioned how much they had enjoyed
their visit to the Centralia area.
They'll return home at the end of
the week.
Many former Junior Farmers
from Huron, Perth, Middlesex
counties who had travelled on pre-
vious exchanges were also there.
The Summer Games dance ended
the day on an energetic note.
Sunday the group spent at the
50th Anniversary Reunion at the
Ontario Agricultural Museum in
Milton. The museum is an interest-
ing site of old agricultural build-
ings and equipment. Beautiful
quilts made by skillful quilters
throughout Ontario are currently on
display. Past and current Junior
Farmers enjoyed the chicken barbe-
cue and reminisced about shared
activities. In addition to the mu-
seum attractions, there were family
activities and slide shows, sing-
songs, and square dancing. Con-
gratulations -on your 50th anniver-
sary, Junior Farmers of Ontario,
and best wishes for many more ex-
citing and memorable years.
