Carmel, were united in marriage on Saturday, April 16, 1994 at St. Boniface Ro- man Catholic Church, Zurich with Father M. Wronski of- ficiating. The newlyweds en- joyed a honeymoon in Can- cun, and are now residing in Mt. Carmel. A special thanks to all the wedding party, fami- ly and friends for making their day a very special one. Comedies explore daring deceits STRATFORD - Moliere's comic double hill, The School for Hus- hands and the Imaginary Cuckold, translated by Richard Wilbur, opened at Stratford's Festival Theatre on Friday, August 5. These farcical comedies explore the daring deceits and fortuitous misconceptions that conspire to unite true lovers. The School for Husbands and The Imaginary Cuckold is directed by Michael Langham, with set de- sign by Douglas Stein, costume design by Ann Hould-Ward, music by Stanley Silverman, lighting de- sign by Michael J. Whitfield and choreography by Kelly Arnsby. The 1994 production of The School for Husbands and the Imaginary Cuckold features Brian Bedford as Sganarclle, Olivia Birkelund as Isabelleia!ie's Maid, Martha Burns as Lconor, Richard Curnock as Ergastc/ Villchrequin, Marion Day as Ce - lie, Colm Feore as Valerc/Lclic, Tim MacDonald as Notary/ Relative, Barry MacGregor as Magistrate/Gros-Rene, Roberta Maxwell as Lisette/Sganarelle's Wife, Nicholas Pennell as Ariste/ Gorgihus, John Watson as Servant and Margaret Gay, Stephen Green and Patricia Mullen as Musicians. Mennonite church holds picnic in park The picnic was held after the morning service. By Carmel Sweeney ZURICH - Members of the Mennonite parish held a church picnic at Gascho's Park on Sunday. Their morning service was held there also, followed by a potluck picnic lunch and social. St. Marys Shrine Pilgrimage dates are from August 13 to 22 inclusive. Mass begins every day at 11:(X) a.m. Participants are reminded to bring lunch and a lawn chair. Rosary procession and benediction begins at 1:30 with blessing of the sick. Dashwood United Church is having a chicken harhecue on August 17 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dashwood Community Centre. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 Ibr children live to 12 years old. Children under five are free. Plans are well underway for the annual bean festival in Zurich on Satur- day, August 27. It begins with a pancake breakfast from 7 to 10:00 a.ni. A C.J.B.X. video dance party will he featured Friday evening at the Commu- nity Centre starting at 8 p.m. Advance tickets are now available from local merchants for $8.00, or $10.0) at the door. There will be line dancing and a special performance by The Carry On Cloggers. Fireworks will be held at dusk on the fair grounds. Glad Days wwre held in Zurich last Thursday afternoon and Friday at two locations: by the hank and at the post office. Several women volun- teered their time to sell the hunches of gladiolus to raise money for epilep- sy research. Captain for the village of Zurich was Marie Gelinas Sr. In spite of a cool and windy day on Sunday, the pork barbecue and corn roast held outdoors at St. Boniface parish was successful. The annual event is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. The Catholic Rural Life Conference of the London Diocese is being held at St. Boniface Parish hall this Wednesday at 7 p.m. Everyone welcome. Personals Mary -Ann Craner and son Kyle from Fort McMurray, Alberta is visiting with her dad Marinus Vcrmunt and Maria and brothers and sisters in the arca. Dave and Theresa Strickland from Sydney, Nova Scotia spent the week- end with her sister Carmel and Jerome Sweeney. A surprise 50th birthday get-together and fancily brunch was enjoyed at Hessenland Country Inn on Sunday, August 14 in honour of Carmel Swee- ney. Her sister Theresa from Nova Scotia was in town along with daughter Carrie Eyhergen from Georgia and Beth from Toronto. Also present were a sister Carol and Bill Butler from Sarnia, Uncle George and Roselie Har- vey from Redford, Michigan, daughter Heather and Paul Klopp and family along with her husband Jerome and daughters Renee and Meagan Swee- ney. Sympathy is extended to the family and relatives of the late Lorne Klopp who passed away on August 9, and to his wife Mildred. His funeral was held at the Lutheran Church on Friday. A bridal shower was held for Lori Rau on August 14 at St. Peter's Parish Hall, St. Joseph, with over 50 friends and relatives attending. Lori is the daughter of Dick and Barb Rau, RR 2, Zurich and fiance of Mark LaPorte, • son of Isidore and Paula of Zurich. A Kuck and doe will he held at the Community Centre this Friday. The couple are to he married in October. Congratulations to Darcy Vanneste and Terri -Lynn Farquhar who were married at St. Boniface Church on August 13 with dinner and reception held in Hensall. The groom is the son of Marcel and Simonne, RR 2, Kip - pen and the bride is the daughter of Bob and Mary. Michele Gelinas from Burnaby, B.C. is presently spending the month of— August fAugust visiting her parents Mozart and Marie Sr. and farnily7members' the area. Best wishes for a speedy recovery are extended to Eleanor Riley, Maria Kenda and Bill Ducharme. Happy birthday wishes go out to 19 year old Jenny Morrison on August 12 and to Monique Gelinas on August 18. Happy anniversary wishes go to Marc and Cindy Gelinas on August 12. A puck and doe was held for Marty Merner and Lisa Ward on Saturday, at the Zurich arena. Marty is the son of Bob and Tootie, Zurich. The couple are planning to be married in September. A good time was had by those who went on the bus trip Saturday to the Millbank arca with Glen Thiel. After going to various places they enjoyed a meal at the Stone Crock in Elmira. Happy belated anniversary wishes to Karl and Mary Regier on August 7. A family reunion was held at the home of Jerome and Betty Geoffrey in Tillsonhurg on Saturday with relatives corning from Zurich, Windsor and Brampton. A surprise 50th birthday party was held recently for Don Masse in Grand Bend at Leo and Lindsay Duchannc Camp. Several friends and rel- atives were on hand to celebrate the occasion and had fun doing skits. horse -hack riding, and dancing. Guests came from Windsor, Belle River, Forest, Camlachic and Zurich area. Don was also surprised to find a horse lawn ornament in his flower bed, when he arrived home, given to him by his grandchildren. Bubble gum blowers A bubble gum blowing contest on Grand Bend's beach Sunday aftemoon wasn't out to find the biggest bubbles, but the quickest. Contestants In the Hubba Bubba sponsored event had to open a fresh piece of gum, chew hard, and the first bubble won.
