Exeter Express knocked out by Listowel
Beaten in two straight
LISTOWEL - When the dust fi-
nally settled in the ninth inning
Monday night it was host Listowel
winning 8-7 to sweep the best -of -
three Great Lakes Senior Baseball
League playoff series from Exeter.
The Express trailed 5-1 after sev-
en innings but came back to tie
things up in the top of the eighth,
they went up 7-5 in the ninth but
Listowel scored three in the bottom
of the inning.
Listowel 9, Exeter 5
The visiting Legionnaires went to
work early last Tuesday night as
they scored two quick runs in their
half of the first inning in the open-
ing game of the series.
Exeter starling pitcher Scot Rus-
sell started out on a positive note,
rearing the first two batters he
faced and he went to a full count on
the third before he gave up three
straight hits and two runs.
Although Russell managed to re-
tire the side in the second, he gave
up seven runs in the third and was
replaced by Dave Atthill who went
three -and -a -third frames before
Mike Agnew came on.
Exeter managed to get a run in
the first as Don MacDonald sin-
gled, stole second moved to third
on a throwing error :and scored
when Ron Elliott hit into a double
play.
Listowel made two errors in the
first two innings but settled down
and gave up just two runs in the
third to the hosts and two more in
the sixth.
r
Exeter catcher Mark Glavin tried to put the tag on even though he didn't have the ball during
last Tuesday night's Great Lakes Senior Baseball League playoff game with visiting Listowel.
