Annual pork barbecue set
for this Sunday in Zurich
St. Boniface is hold-
ing the pork barbecue
and corn roast at the
church.

ZURICH - The St. Bor ace Par-
ish annual pork barbecue and corn
roast will be held this Sunday Au-
gust 14 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the hack
of the church.
Tickets cost $8 for adults and $3
for children under 12. Dinner will
be served on a first come, first
served basis.
Rural Life meeting
The Catholic Rural Life Confer-
ence of London Diocese will he
having a meeting at St. Boniface
Parish Hall on August 17 at 7 p.m.
A light-hearted skit of the "Fami-
ly Farm" will begin at 8:15 and
everyone is welcome.

Congratulations to Rose -Mary
Regier and Jeff Dickson who were
married at St. Boniface Church on
Saturday with dinner and reception
held in Zurich at the Community
Centre. The couple will be living in
Waterloo.
Happy birthday to Dolly Jeffrey,
celebrating her `73rd birthday on
August 13; also to Adeline Deno -
my of Blue Water Rest Home cele-
brating her 90th birthday August
13.
The family of Mozart Gelinas Sr.
helped him celebrate his 75th birth-
day on Sunday with dinner at Erb's
Country Kitchen followed by a get-
together at their home.
Jerry and Brenda Rader and fam-
ily spent last week at Pike Lake as
son Derek was attending hockey
camp there.
Heather Klopp and Carrie Eyber-
gen spent Saturday and Sunday in
Toronto visiting their sister Beth
Sweeney.
A family barbecue was held at
the home of Jerome and Carmel
Sweeney on Monday in honour of
Carrie's 30th birthday (August 8).
She is visiting from Georgia.
There will he a buck and doe for
Marty Merner, son of Bob and
Tootle, and Lisa Ward on Satur-
day, August 13 at the Zurich Com-
munity Centre. The couple arc
planning to be married in Septem-
her.
Mozart and Marie Gelinas Sr.
spent the weekend camping in a
trailer at St. Helen's along with
other musical friends from the
Clinton and Bluevale area.
A good time was had by those
who went to the buck and doe
dance for Paul Goldsmith and Mel-
anie Graham in Hensall August 6.
Paul is the son of Doris and
Lloyd Smith, Zurich.
The couple are planning to be
married September 24.
A bridal shower was held for
Peggy Gackstetter at the Mennon-
ite church on Saturday. On Sunday
a wedding shower was held in
Blake at the home of her parents,
Bob and Barb Oesch, in honour of
her upcoming wedding to Wayne
Playhouse holds appreciation
day,for Guild members
GRAND BEND - A _special
Guild Appreciation Day was
held at the Huron Country Play-
house on July 28, as a thank you
for all the efforts of the Ladies
Guild. Artistic Director Max
Reimer was presented with a
$4000 cheque by Guild President
Shirley Platt, to be used as an•ini-
tial payment on a new Yamaha
piano, and to purchase a replace-
ment canopy for the information
kiosk in the court yard. The new
canopy has been ordered in the
Playhouse colours of blue, white
and yellow. The piano has al-
ready arrived and is in use for re-
hearsals of 'Oklahoma', provid-
ing much better quality music for
the orchestra during the musical
productions.
Guild members were treated to
a special tour of the theatre: up-
stairs rehearsal hall and ward-
robe rooms, props and stage set
departments where the sets are
designed and built, and a walk
on stage all set up for "Death
Trap".
A wine and cheese party was
enjoyed following the tour, with
several of the recipes coming
from the new Guild cookbook
"Curtain Calls
President Shirley Platt showed
the members an engraved brass
plaque made to honour the Sau-
ble Court Quilters, who donate a
hand crafted quilt to the Guild
each year as a raffle fund raiser.
The plaque will be placed in the
farm house gift shop, on display
where this year's quilt is being
raffled. Platt also introduced Do-
lores Thurston as interim treasur-
er for the Guild, since treasurer
Betty Hoyles is ill. Frances
Fletcher Jr. is chairing this year's
fashion show, titled "Out of My
Dreams" based on theme songs
from "Oklahoma". The fashion
show will be held September 15,
at the Playhouse, and tickets are
now on sale for this event, which
includes prizes an. refreshments.
The August 24 meeting will be
held at Oakwood Inn, to honour
past presidents of the H.C.P.
Guild, and look at some of the
Guild history.
Hensall barbecue and
dance August 19
'Double Exposure' is
to entertain the crowd.

HENSALL - The Hensall Parks
Board pork barbecue and dance
will be held August 19. The dance
will feature "Double Exposure" and
dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. and
10:30 p.m.
United Church
At the Hensall United Church,
this past Sunday, Sharon Wurm
was guest speaker and Doug Klopp
was the organist. Wurm's topic was
"The Chosen". Ushers were Steve
McGregor and Ray Jacobe. Flow-
ers were placed in the church in
memory of Percy Campbell and
Grant MacLean.
Next week's church service will
begin at 10 a.m. with Rev. Ziegler
speaking.
Presbyterian Church
Carmel Presbyterian Church will
resume services August 14 at 9:45
a.m.
Glad days
Hensall will be having Glad Days
for Epilepsy on August 11, 12/ and
13. They will be sold in front of
William's Hairstyling on Main
street. For advance orders or home
delivery phone 262-2715 on Au-
gust 11.
Personals
Recent visitors with Ross and
Donna Corbett were Barbara Pres-
ton and Anne from Sundridge,
Cora MacFarlane, Janine Znak and
Chelsea Cole, from Alberta; and
Connie Taylor from Gravenhurst.
Several nieces and children came
home to attend the Taylor Picnic at
the Stanley Pavilion. The group
then spent Saturday evening tent-
ing in Corbett's hack yard.
Also visiting in August is Gerald
Riffc from El Centro, California
with Taylor and Caldwell cousins
in the Clinton arca.
George Bernard Sandford passed
away Wednesday, August 3 at
Parkwood Hospital, London. A vet-
eran of WW 11, he was raised by
the late Will and Agnes MacLean
of the second concession of Tuck-
ersmith and attended No. 2 school.
Hc is survived by his wife, the for-
mer Mildred Raiz, five children
and one sister Dorothy; prede-
ceased by a son Bill and sister Eve-
lyn Workman.

The party was also a family reun-
ion with several friends and rela-
tives attending. Dave and Kelly
Gackstetter of Kitchener were also
celebrating the birth of their six
week old baby girl.
Visitors of Isidore and Paula La-
Porte this week are her brother
Scott and Cathy Thomas and two
children Kirk and Amy from Sur-
rey, British Columbia. Then on
Saturday, August 13 a family bar-
becue will be held to celebrate
Kirk's birthday and Paula's moth-
er, Lee Thomas`frpm Exeter.
Pat and Bonnie Groot and family,
Ray and Karen Mathonia and fami-
ly, and Roger and Charlene Fink-
beiner and family spent a week re-
cently camping at Pine Lake near
Bayfield.
Walls for a scenic garden
Work started Monday on the retaining wallls that will frame some of the scenic gardens
in MacNaughton Park. The Lions Club, which initiated the gardens plan, is also acting as
the general contractor for the project. Water lines were installed in the gardens earlier
this year, and hydro lines will soon follow. Fundraising for the project continues.
