Bridal shower at Thames Road
Bride -elect Sandra Cottle is plan-
ning to be married in late August.

THAMES ROAD - Some 60 women and children
gathered at the church on Wednesday evening for a bri-
dal shower for Sandra Cottle bride -elect of August.
Jean Hodgert played "Here Comes The Bride" as
Sharon Passmore escorted Sandra to her chair on the
platform.
Passmore welcomed everyone and introduced the
platform guests. A piano medley by Agnes Bray was
enjoyed. Marion Snow gave a humorous reading "Just
Like a Man" and then read a nicely worded address.
Amy Hodgert, Ann Marie Hodgert, Stacey Snow and
Robyn Etherington carried the gifts in.
After opening the many lovely and useful gifts, San-
dra replied and mentioned about her reception and
dance the end of August. Rhoda Rohde conducted a
contest "A Bride's First Shopping List" and several
prizes were won. A delicious lunch was then partaken
of. The basement was decorated with coloured bal-
loons, streamers and flowers.
Church service
Rev. Jim Allsop conducted the outdoor worship ser-
vice at Morrison Darn on Sunday morning. The Re-
sponsive Reading was called The bread of Life.
The Scripture Reading II Samuel 11:2-5, 14-17, 26-
12:10 and from the Gospel of John 6:24-36 wes read
by Rev. Allsop. The title of his sermon was entitled
Our Salvation Is Found In Faith, Not Good Works.
Amazing Grace was the closing hymn. About 45
people sat down to a bountiful smorgasbord dinner. Af-
ter dinner many sports and games were conducted by
Elimville elders Marion Skinner, Bruce Delbridge and
Marjorie Johns. Ray and Alice Cann and Lorne and Pat
Ballantyne were the table committee.
Winners during the sports were: Races - preschool,
Alyssa Moran, Evelyn Johns; six to nine years, Megan
Parker, Sherri Skinner; 10 to 13, Erin Parker, Ryan
Parker; young ladies, Erin Parker, Alice Cann; young
men, Ryan Parker, Ray Cann.; ladies kick the slipper,
Erin Parker, Alice Cann; mens kick the slipper, Ryan
Parker, Ray Cann: oven mitts relay, Alice Cann's
team; scavenger hunt, Ruth Skinner's group; jelly
beans in jar, Marion Cann; article in basket, John Bat-
ten; visible buttons. Dan Gallant; items in jar 47, Dan
Gallant; 10 white contents in bags, Marion Cann; birth-
day closest to July 31, Marion Cann; string around the
waist, Grace Pym.
Personals
Brendan and Alyssa Moran of Toronto are holiday-
ing with their grandparents Lorne and Pat Ballantyne.
We are sorry to report that Reta Campbell fell and
broke her hip. She is a patient in University Hospital.
We wish her a speedy recovery.

St. Patrick's Church and Sunday
School will hold their August pool
party and barbecue at the Davis's
on Thursday, August 4 beginning at
2:00 p.m., barbecue at 5:30 p.m.
Participants are reminded to bring
their items for the bale.
Sunday, August 7 St. Patrick's
doors will be open at 8:30 a.m. fol-
lowing a month's closure while the
rector was on vacation. The service

ham have returned home after a
holiday with grandparents Bob and

residents
visit
adjuvant's
home
ZURICH - It was ice crcam sand-
wiches in the country on Tuesday
afternoon for many residents of
Blue Water Rest Home who gath-
ered at thc residence of Cathy
Shantz, Adjuvant. Gladys Gingc-
rich, mother of thc host helped
serve punch and rice krispie
squares to Eleanor Brown, Esther
Makins, Ruby Bell, Ruby Hog-
garth, Marcella Dietrich, Pearl
Miller, Bernice Kennedy, Kurt
Gebel, Edna Johnston, Hilda Rader,
Joe Kenda, Rose Merner and Annie
Martin. There are only beef cattle
on the farm; therefore none of the
residents were asked to milk the
cows. They were able to sit out
back, smell the fresh country air
and take in thc surrounding hillside.

afternoon Chapel Service. Fr. Mat-

Church, Zurich celebrated Mass.
Welcome back to Vera Thiel who
was visiting St. Joseph's Hospital,
London.
Our condolences to the family
and friends of the late Lawrence
(Paddy) Louis Bedard, who passed
away at Blue Water Rest Home on
Thursday evening. Paddy will be
missed by his wife Dorothy, his sis-
ter Mary Romaniszyn who is a resi-
dent at the Home and his family
who visited with him at the Home
the past two years.
The residents look forward to
making ice cream by kicking the
can on August 3, at a picnic at Mor-
rison Dam on August 5 and a live
theatre production at the Home on
August 8 by the Huron County
Playhouse.
Sunday the Davis's entertained
their family Bob and Heather Mac-
Gillivray and family, Michael and
Suzanne Davis and family, Sarah
Walker, Ralph and Joyce Simpson
and Darren with a pool party and
barbecue. Also visiting were Lorne
and June Daer, Lauralee and Jason
of New Hamburg.
Following the funeral of their un-
cle, the late Nelson Squire on Mon-
day, the Davis's travelled to Flint,
Michigan for the funeral of their
relative, the late Shirley Ford, on
Tuesday, visiting also with cousins
George Miller, Christine Hicks and
Alberta Mae Ballentine and family,
all of Flint.
Margaret and Ron Carroll have
been busy this week with their fam-
ily from Scotland visiting with rel-
atives in St. Thomas and Grand
Bend and showing them places of
interest.
