Capsule Comments with Ernie Miatello Photodynamic therapy is being tested to treat clogged arteries. A light-sensitive compound is in- fused Into the blood stream. It collects on the - plaque that causes the narrowing. The compound is then activated by using a low -intensity laser, from a fibre-optic tube which is threaded into the narrowed artery, resulting in removal of the plaque. Sounds encouraging except that so far work has been done only on rab- bits. Human testing is still to come. But it looks like it will be less tyau- matic than other methods currently in use to treat the problem.
