Belarus child in Zurich for six weeks
The 11 -year-old girl
will be staying in Cana-
dauntil August 7.

ZURICH - The community wel-
comes 11 -year-old Svetlana, a girl
from Chist in Belarus, spending six
weeks with host family Danny and
Cheryl Lalonde in Zurich.
Svetlana is among a group of
children in Canada until August 7.
She can speak some English and
understands it as well. Fr. Wronski,
pastor of St. Boniface Church is
helping as an interpreter.
Bus trip
On July 6 the altar boys arSt.
Boniface church, along with some
parents, will be treated to a bus trip
to Canada's Wonderland in Toron-
to by Pastor Fr. Wronski, as a token
of his appreciation for their help
during the year.
CWL Day
Anyone interested in going to the
Shrine in St. Marys on Wednesday,
July 13 (C.W.L. Day) are to contact
Joan Regier before July 10 for driv-
ing arrangements. Mass begins at
11:00 a.m. Participants are to bring
a bag lunch.
Fair board meeting
A reminder that . the next fair
board meeting will be July 11 at the
township hall at 8:30 p.m., to pre-
pare for the upcoming Zurich Fair
on July 22 to 24.
'Chicken barbecue
The Mennonite church will be
having their annual chicken barbe-
cue on July 21 from 5 to 8 p.m.
Tickets are available at Seyler's,
C.G. Farm Supply and Huron
Ridge Flowers. Cost of tickets for
adults is $8.50.
Vacation Bible School
The Vacation Bible School is be-
ing held this week for children
from kindergarten to grade six at
the Zurich Public School and for
those in grades seven to 10 at the
Lutheran Church Hall, from 8:45
a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A program will
be held on Friday night at the Pub-
lic School for parents and friends at
7 p.m.
Awards assembly
The students of the Public School
held their Awards Assembly before
school closed last week and had a
little surprise presentation for their
retiring principal Bill Black.
In September their new principal
will be Patty Brereton from Gode-
rich.
Canada's Wonderland
Anyone interested in going to
Canada's Wonderland by bus on
July 16 with the Optimist Club are
to phone Chris Littlechild as soon
as possible at 236-7144 for ticke
which cost $20.00 per person.

Jerome and Carmel Sweeney en-
joyed going to Victoria Park in
London on Canada Day to the "Big
Band Music Festival" with Guy
Lombardo's Royal Canadians.
They also saw relative Shaun
Sweeney and partner Cindy in a
dance demonstration from the Fred
Astaire Dance Studio, where they
are instructors.
Sympathy of the community goes
to the family and relatives of the
late John Denomme who passed
away on June 30, and to his wife
Bernadette. Nis funeral Mass was
held at St. Peter's Church, St. Jo
seph on Saturday.
Happy birthday wishes go out to
three-year-old Rebecca Skinner last
week, and to Amanda Neeb on
June 29.

ard, Heather Redick and Marlene

tal.
Marie Gelinas Sr. and daughter-
in-law Carmel Sweeney spent last
Thursday in Sarnia visiting with
relatives, Madeline Gelinas and
Carol and Bill Butler.
Annual Strawberry Social
enjoyed at Queensway
HENSALL - Queensway spon-
sored the annual Strawberry Social
last Tuesday evening. Many people
enjoyed strawberry shortcake and
ice cream while listening to music
on the side lawn. They managed to
stay ahead of the rain. All proceeds
from the Strawberry Social go to-
wards Alzheimer's Research.
Queensway would like to thank all
those who Supported the cause.
Special thanks to Jack Simmons
and group who provided the musi-
cal entertainment for the evening.
Residents enjoyed a fitness break
Wednesday morning followed by a
rousing game of Ba"Iloon Volleyball
in the afternoon. Thursday morning
residents gathered for their monthly
Resident Council meeting. The first
scheduled bal `iecue was postponed
due to inclement weather but they
still enjoyed a lunch club..Resi-
dents had tuna melts with mixed
vegetables and cherry cheesecake
for dessert'.
It wasn't too wet however to go
for a car ride on Thursday after-
noon. Volunteers from the Chris-
tian Reformed Church came and
took a group for a scenic drive
around the Clinton area. Thank you
to all those volunteers who went on
the car rids throughout the month
of June. The residents certainly en-
joy getting out for a nice relaxing
drive and picnic.

Villa Apartments and family, Strat-
ford, recently travelled to Gatineau,
Quebec to attend the wedding of
her{ grandson Shaun Peachey, son

lowna, B.C. The wedding was held

end at Homestead family camping
