By Liz Sangster Hensall correspondent HENSALL - Children ages four to 12 years old can register for six weeks of activities in the Hensall Summer Playground program. A swimming program is also availa- ble. The program starts July 8, run- ning until August 16. Registration and further information is available from the Hensall Municipal Office, 262-2812. A payment plan is avail- able. The Hensall Playground staff will be at the Hay Days '96 festivi- ties this weekend. Hensall United Church enjoyed an informal awards service' for the Junior congregation, this past Sun- day. The Junior choir and students presented songs and were recog- nized for their participation in the church school this year. Pam Mal - tette was presented with a gift from the Junior congregation. Hilda Payne received a gift from the Jun- ior choir. After the service a picnic was enjoyed. A community shower was held June 16 at Hensall United Church, for the fiancee of Wayne Scotch - Swimming sessions planned for Varna area children The lessons run from July 15 to 26. By Joan Beierling Varna correspondent VARNA - The Varna Pork Bar- becue, run by the stewards, was a success with many people in the community attending along with many from outside the community. There will be no church service this Sunday, June 30. The next ser- vice will be at Varna church July 7 at 11 a.m. Please note the change of time. This will be the first service for the new minister, Rev. Tracy Crick. A short congregational meet- ing will follow the service, and a potluck lunch will be served after the meeting. Daily Vacation Bible School fotmg'are available and should be returned to Willi Laurie as soon as possible. The Stanley Township Rec Com- mittee have planned their swim- ming lesson session this year from mer, Joanne Whaley of Milton. About 50 relatives and friends at- tended from Alymer, London, St. Catharines, Milton, Kitchener - Waterloo, and the Huron County area. Marlene Welsh, the grooms' aunt arranged the proceedings. Cynthia Welsh accompanied by Jeanette Welsh on the piano pro- vided background music while the guests viewed the gifts. Christa Welsh helped arrange the table for the shower. Lisa Kernick of Exeter helped the bride and the maid -of - honor open the gifts. The bride's grandmother, the groom's mother and the groom's cousin were assist- ed by Marion Tinney. Marg Cole, Pam Mallette, Barb Gackstetter and Pat Veal worked in the kitchen. Wayne Scotchmer and Jennifer Whaley will be married August 24 at Hensall United Church. The Hensall & District Kinsmen, Hensall Parks Board and Hensall Firefighters are co-operatively planning a beef barbecue and dance for Saturday, August 17. The eve- ning will feature a barbecued beef dinner from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the dance (music by D.J.) will fol- low. The evening will also include an elimination draw, with a grand prize of $1,000.00 cash. Tickets are available from organization mem- bers, Hensall Arena and Hensall Municipal Office. All proceeds from the event will be used toward the purchase of a fire department rescue equipment van (Hensall & Area), and a self-propelled ice re - surfacer for the Hensall Arena. Dr. Robert F. Forty golfers braved harsh elements to participate. Best score of the day was John Hay with 81. Don Dearing was the top senior with 82. Lan Ashman journeyed from Ottawa to partici- pate. The longest drive was by Ron Chuter of Clinton. Share th Wealth prizes went to Clhyton .toper.
