Imperials on a two
game win streak
EXETER - The Exeter Imperials
Junior Fastball Club pulled off two
wins in two tries last week to im-
prove their Ontario Junior Men's
Fastball League record to five wins
and six losses.
On Wednesday night in Aber-
foyle, a two out, two strike single
by third baseman Ben Armstrong in
the top of the seventh inning, drove
in Glenn Hines with the winning
run as they defeated the home
squad 4-3.
Armstrong had tripled and
'scored Exeter's second run on a
Greg Dalrymple double in the third
inning. Dalrymple also doubled and
scored a run on a Kevin Gooder
single in the second inning and sin-
gled and scored a run on a Steve
Cook single in the sixth. Cook also
singled in the second inning.
Gavin Snell and Glenn Hines
added singles as the Imperials
pounded out 10 hits. Kevin Gooder
was the starting pitcher for Exeter
and worked five and one third in-
nings, giving up two runs on seven
hits, while walking none and strik-
ing out six. Wayne Fellow gave up
a run and a hit in two thirds of an
inning while striking out two. Steve
Cook picked up the save as he
struck out the side with the tying
run at second base in the seventh
inning.
Last Tuesday night at home
against Milverton, Exeter broke
down Team Ontario pitcher, Dean
Buchanan, in the second inning as
Steve Cook doubled off the centre
field fence, scoring Chris Kennedy
with the fust run. They then scored
four more runs in the third inning,
two on a Greg Dalrymple double
and two unearned, as they coasted
to a five to two victory.
Steve Cook pitched up the com-
plete game win, allow two runs on
four hits while striking out 11 and
walking none.
The Imperials are at home twice
this week. Hickson was the opposi-
tion last night and results were not
available at press time. Woodstock
will be the visitors on Friday night
with game time 8:30.

EXETER - Exeter has won a
;bid to host one of the most pre-
stigious curling events in the
,province.
The Exeter Curling club will

the province's best curlers to Ex-

"You're going to see some of
the best curling in Ontario right
here in Exeter," said hosting
Committee chairperson, Jim De
Block.
The four-day event will will at-
tract an estimated 1,200 people
to Exeter and De Block said local
business owners will benefit
from the influx of spectators who
will need to book accommoda-

gas -up there cars and perhaps
,o a tittle shopping while they're
l fere,
Ontario Curling Club member,
Don Boyes, put forth a bid for
Exeter to host the games in 1988,

"It's an honor to have the pro-

were kind of surprised to get it,"
said De Block.
