GRANTON - The Thomison farn-
iIy picnic was held at the Granton
park on Sunday.
Local residents enjoyed the annu-
1 al chicken barbecue sponsored by
Woodham United Church at the
Kirkton Woodham Community
Centre on June 12.
Becky Eiindree and Cathie West -
man I hosted the luncheon and eu-
chre at the Lions Hall on June 14.
Prizes for high score went to Dar-
lene Kindree and for lone hands to
Wally' Kindree and etieryone en-
joyed consolation prizes. •
United church service
At the Granton United Church on
Sunday, Pastor Normalie Voakes'
sermon was a communion mellita-
tion,based on the lessons from Gen -
psis 18, Roman 5 and Matthew 9.
The anthem by the choir was
'Part of the family'.
Flowers were placed in the sanc-
tuary in memory of John Cove, fa-
ther of Marilyn Humphrey.
The soya beans for the Food
Grains Project have been planted
and a sign is soon to be erected.
A breakfast in the park will be-
held on July 28 from 9 to 10:30
a.m. A service with Bob Heywood
and his music presentation will fol-
low at 11 a.m. in the church when
the Food Grains partners from
Humber United Church in Toronto
will be in andance.

The quarterly general meeting of
the Granton UCW was held at the
church on Tuesday evening, June
11 beginning with a coffee hour.
President Doreen McRobert
opened with a story 'Lady, Are
You Rich' and Amelia Jameson
gave a reading about 'Seniors'.
Unit two was in charge of the
program when the guest speaker
from llderton, Cheryl Curtis, gave
an inspiring presentation on the
HOMME program (Helping others
maintain Middlesex elders). She
showed slides and explained the
program and also told of the Pesky
Pennies project during June. Cathie
and Audrey Westman are volun-
teers in this area. Penny McRobert
thanked the speaker and Heather
Benner gave a reading 'Walk in my
shoes'. During the business period,
a donation ;as made from the
UCW to the Board of Stewards and
the beef barbecue and some cater
ing, were discussed.
Unit 4 met at Nora Wissel's
place on Wednesday evening, June
12. Leader Marilyn Humphrey read
the scripture from Mark 10 and
gave fhb meditation Oh tate great-
ness, followed by prayer. Betty
Dann read a story about different
forms of services in the Toronto
area and Marilyn had a reading
'Special occasion'. Betty also gave
some humorous bits from the
Readers Digest. The meeting was
closed with the benediction and
Nora Wissel served lunch.

UCW sending two children to camp
GRAND BEND - Grand Bend
United Church Women met Thurs-
day afternoon June 13 at 12:30 at
Old Orchard Park Condos, on the
patio by the pool, with hostess Joan
Eagleson, for a potluck picnic be-
fore the meeting.
President Evelyn Johnson opened
with two short readings, "If you
have a garden" and "If you stand
very still" Mary Wilson gave the
call to worship with a talk on "A
traveller's guide to heaven" with
scripture from John, Matthew,
Acts, Hebrews and Timothy.
Hazel Broad spoke on World
Outreach, saying that mission has a
unique meaning in the United
Church. As Chrbdans they aro
called to psrtieipese in Ood'e mis-
sion.

reported on the Saeluitchewaii Con-
ference and the MI Nedra Circle at
Picarm, tat area of 1600 people
in Northern Ontario, accessible
only by boat or plane. Connie Rus-
sell, a member of the local church,
has been teaching school at Pikan-

Adams and Berrie Keyes attended
Campsite Experience at Camp Me-
nesetung with the theme "Meeting
Ood in the Garden" on June 10.
It was agreed to sponsor two area
children to go to Camp Menesetung
this summer.
Plans were finalised for the ba
zaar, bake sale and garden poduce
sale to be held August 7 at 11 a.m.
on the church grounds. .
