Opera and hymnody
outdoors at Grand
Bend United Church
The service is planned for July 28
GRAND BEND - On Sunday July 28, an innovative church service
takes place on the lawn beside Grand Bend United Church. It features mu-
sic of grand opera set to familiar sacred texts. What an array of operatic
choices - the Quintet from Wagner's "Meistersinger" wedded to "Savior
like a Shepherd lead us", the Ave Maria from Verdi's "Otello" to the
hymn "Break thou the Bread of Life".
Opera singers Adriane Stewart and Silvia Buchanan join Grand Bend's
Don McLean, Edward Avey and Norm Abbott, with Lynn Tremain ac-
companying. They present a service full of music of not only Verdi and
Wagner, but also Mozart and Tschaikowsky, culminating in a benediction
to the duet Evening Prayer from "Hansel and Gretel".
Further information from Grand Bend United Church office Monday
through Friday - 10 a.m. till noon at (519) 238-2402 or Norm Abbott in
London at (519) 432-7461.
