Rhoda Rohde Thames Road correspondent THAMES ROAD - The June mating of the U.C.W. was held on Monday evening with 32 women and two visitors present. Diane Jeffery welcomed every- one and gave the Call to Worship "Flower of Friendship". A prayer "Crocus Minded" was read by Rho- da Rohde. The Scripture was read by Ferne Stewart. Marilyn Vandenbussche played several numbers on the pia- no. Margaret McCarter and Ferne Stewart received the offering and Rhoda Rohde gave the Offertory Prayer. McCarter introduced guest speak- er Stacey Rader of Dashwood who was back packing for a year through New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia and Fiji returning home on May 3. Her mother Nancy Rader passed pictures around. They also showed a video of Stacey bungee jumping. She was thanked by Jeffery and presented with a gift. Rhode presented Marilyn Van- denbussche with some flowers. McCarter gave a reading "The Praying Hands." Rohde gave a reading "When God Created Farm Folks." Beatrice Dawson opened the business with the U.C.W. prayer. Roll call was answered with the members bringing plants for the flower beds. Marilyn Pym gave the treasurer's report. Jean Hodgen gave the Board of Managers report and Pat Ballantyne gave a manse report. The group decided not to put a display in Kirkton Fair this year. The Church in Society committee is looking after the program for the Bluewater Rest Home at Zurich on Monday, June 10. Sunday School anniversary The Sunday School anniversary was held on • Sunday •morning. Su -1 perintendent is Karen Etherington. The teachers are Kathy Bray, Mel- onie Miller, Joan Morgan and Ju- dith Parker. The pianist was Mari- lyn Vandenbussche. The call to, - worship was given by Erin Parker. Melonie Miller read from Matthew 10:1-4. The Sunday School choir sang "Fishers of Men" accompa- nied by Vanessa Bray on the piano. Karen Etherington gave the Intro- duction of Presentation 6f the 12 apostles with narrators Robyn Etherington, Susan Miner, Sarah Miller, Kristy Bray, Matthew Min- er, Robyn Etherington, • Heather Morgan, Paul Morgan, Jessica Bray, Megan Parker and Maggie Miller. Judith Parker read from Matthew 10:5-15. Joan Morgan read from Matthew 10:16-25. Kathy Bray read from Matthew 10:40-42. The narrators portrayed the 12 disciples. The choir sang "His Banner Over Me Is Love" accompanied by Va- nessa Bray on the piano. Ryan Parker and David Vanden- bussche received the -offering and the choir sang "Hear The Pennies Dropping". Karen Etherington gave the Of- fertory prayer and everyone repeat- ed the Lord's Prayer. They sang "Stand Up Stand Up for Jesus" and the choir sang the Benediction. Vanessa Bray and Erin Parker played a duet to close the service. The presentation focused on the symbols that have evolved through the years for each of the 12 apos- tles. Usually these symbols appear on a shield, signifying faith, protec- tion, bravery and soldiers of Christ. The Sunday School has incorporat- ed the shields into one Targe banner which will hang in the church sanc- tuary. The church was decorated with colored balloons, iris, peonies and columbine in the flower urns and petunias in the pelican planters. Lunch was enjoyed in the fellow- ship hall. On Sunday, June 16 Father's Day and Celebration of Communion will be held at both churches. On June 17 at Thames Road United Church will be the Straw- berry and Ham Supper. Sunday, June 23 is Elimville Sunday School Anniversary. There won't be a service at Thames Road. Personals Doris Elford, Marjorie Johns, Bill and Rhoda Rohde were among those who went on a bus trip; with Ilderton Tours from the Kirkton Horticultural Society on Wednes- day. They toured Tender Tootsies Outlet store at Glencoe and drove around Ridgetown College grounds seeing the different buildings. The crops were pretty well all in. They had their lunch at Colasan- ti's Nursery at Leamington. During a tour of the nursery they saw many different birds and animals. The group also toured the Libby Glass Factory Outlet at Wallace - burg, each person receiving a Lib- by's drinking jar. Several from this area attended the memorial service for the late Maybelle Cann at the Dinney Fu- neral Home on Friday and the fel- lowship and lunch at the Caven Presbyterian Church. Sympathy is extended to the family. On Sunday, June 9 Glenn' and Marilyn Rohde were pleasantly surprised for their 25th wedding anniversary at the 3 AAA restau- rant. Their anniversary was on June 5. The room was decorated with bells, balloons, 25th happy anniver- sary silver banner and pictures. After the meal, Glenn and Marilyn opened cards and gifts and each gave a reply. All joined in singing "For They are Jolly Good Fel- lows." Those attending were Harry and Sharon Kingma, Darryl and friend Michelle, Tom and Susan Murch, Brad and Sandra Marsden, Mandy and James, Doug and Judy Rohde, Karen and Kathy, Ben Geiger, John Hartman, Dan Rohde, Nancy Blythe, Tammy Rohde, Bill and Rhoda Rohde, and the honored couple Glenn and Marilyn.
