Exeter United Church is wins() ng econd semi-annual tour featuring six local homes. Starting at the gazebo in the MacNaughton Park Scenic Garden the tour, dubbed A Summer's Walk, will take place on June 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and June 16 from 1 ta, .m. A barbecue lunch will be available in the park on both days. Two years ago, the tour fea $ red six well established homes, each with a distinct history. This year y ction includes modern homes �.. in addition to two Victorian houses i ui' 1880's. Each home has unique characteristics that will appeal to q pp many -interests including interior decorating, heritage, memorabilia an ' '.:' ning. Jim and Sharon O'Toole's home at 422 Albert Street was the original parsonage for the former James St. Church, now the Exeter United Church. The O'Tooles have renovated the house, adding modern conveniences while maintaining its classic design including bay windows, a winding staircase and stained glass windows.. 4 Linda and Bill Steele's home at 565 Main Street South also has a sense of local history. The house, constructed in 1885, was built as a home for a family of 10 children. Benjamin Elliott was the first lawyer to open practice in Exeter and for many years after his death the home remained in the family until it was purchased by Dr. Dunlop in 1947. Muriel Dunlop lived in the house until 1979. Gary and Jo-ann Middleton's cottage style home at 55 Sanders Street East features memorabilia from the Exeter Fire Department. The home was built in 1953 for Bill and Ella Middleton, who sold it to their only, son and daughter- in-law in 1982. The house features an on -ground pool, a display of a model train as well as colorful interior decorating. Janice and Bill Brock's bungalow at 17 Kingscourt was built in the early 1970's. The quiet neighborhood provides e perfect setting for a beautiful backyard garden. The interior features antique pieces with local heritage significance as well as a telephone collection. any innovative techniques were used to reflect the family's rsonal style. The home of Wayne and Debra Oke at 174 Andrew Street may be well know to some swimmers in the community. The custom designed home was built in 1990 and features an attached indoor swimming pool. Debra's flair for decorating is expressed,in the two-storey home that has cathedral ceilings, ceramic floors, and solid oak trim.
