HomeMy WebLinkAboutTimes-Advocate, 1996-06-12, Page 10FIREWORKS 1 1 1 1 1 1 Sheppard family holds reunion in Parkhill PARKHILL - Fifty-one members of the Sheppard family met June 2, 3 p.m., at Parkhill Leisure Club for their 48th annual reunion. They enjoyed games organized by Dave, Vicki and Erica West - man. Art Thompson won the clos- est guess of nails in a jar and Nor- ma Baird won the guess for buttons in a jar. The women had a race to sew buttons on a piece of cloth, won by Debbie (Westman) Neff. The m4:n were to see who could drive a nail into a piece of wood the fastest but were unable to to as the wood was apple wood and too hard to drive a nail into. There was a question paper of sports trivia won by Ken Fraser and aa, AMR AIM one for the women on culinary ac- tivities won by Pauline Morrison. The children had most of their ac- tivities indoors so the adults could watch. Everyone participated in a team relay, carrying a Timbit on a spoon around a chair. The children also chewed on donuts on a string held by a parent or other adult. A candy scramble was held out- side while tables were being set in- side for supper at 5 p.m. Children six and under drew pic- tures with sidewalk chalk under the pavilion. Each one got to take home two pieces of chalk. Play- ground equipment was won by Greg Westman and Christopher Baird. 1 I 1 1 1 1 1 Page 20 Times -Advocate, June 12, 2996 Birthday celebrated EXb 1'hR - Hillcrest Rebekah Lodge, St. Marys were the guests of Pride of Rebekah Lodge for their 49th birthday party. A birthday cake beautifully decorated was the highlight of the evening . NG Sis. Mavis Atthill lit the one large candle. Sis. Doris Denham assisted Sis. Mavis in cutting the cake. Sis. Kay Hodgert and Sis. Lois McFalls gave sever- al readings and conducted a contest. Several won prizes from a draw. Sis. Doris Denham took a plant to Sis. Gladys McDonald while she was in South Huron Hospital. Sis. Doris sent a card to Sis. Millie Ful- ton. Sis. Mary Fisher visited Sis. Norma Parsons and Sis. Mable McKnight. Sis. Marie Broom also visited Sis. Mable McKnight. Sis. Belva Rowe had eye surgery and Sis. Margaret McBride had surgery on her leg. Sis. Clara Hams is now home. Sis. Barbara Tiedeman sprained her wrist. A profit of $700 was made from the sale of cheese to be used for the 50th birthday celebration next year. That celebration has been changed from the Legion to the Roc Centre because of size. Sis. Pat Frayne and her husband Bruce will be celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary July 7 in the Legion Hall in Forest. The inaugural meeting will be in Brussels June 24 at 8 p.m. All Past Grands are urged to attend. The evening closed with a Bunch of birthday cake and ice cream. . Award winners South Huron District High School students David Creces and Dave Robilliard were acknowleged with honor awards for their participation in the concert band that recently won a bronze -award. The jazz band also received a bronze award in competition. The minutes were read by Vicki Westman and passed by Norma Baird. The oldest person present was Arthur Thompson and the youngest was Alissa Hayter, daughter of Glen and Ingrid Hayter born Janu- ary 11, 1996. A motion was passed to have the next reunion June 1, 1997 at the same place and time. Susan Hayter and her future husband Steve Rid- dell will organize the games. Kim Baird volunteered to take pictures. Morley and Diane Fraser will fill the office of president. Pauline Morrison, Norma Baird, Donna Wessman, Marion Mitchell, Dave and Gary Sheppard will orga- nize the 50th reunion in 1998. The hat was passed for an offer- ing. Upcoming family events are: Norma and Bili Baird's 40th wed- ding anniversary; Ed and Sandra Holland's 25th anniversary, Febru- ary 9, 1997; Steve Riddell and Su- san Hayter's marriage June 8; Julie Holland and Shawn Young are to be married August 31, 1996 and Debbie Mitchell and Al Bazanson will be married on September 7, 1996.
