Mount Carmel
students win
Championship
MOUNT CARMEL - Our Lady
of Mount Carmel school participat-
ed in the Huron -Perth System
Track and Field meet in Goderich
last Thursday wining four champi-
onships in six intermediate and sen-
ior events.
Jessica Davies placed first in the
100 m. and 200 m. events and third
in the triple jump event in the sen-
ior girls division.
Adam Glavin, was first in the
1,500 m. and 800 m. events and
second in the triple jump in the
senior boys division.
Jeff Arnold won first place in the
200 m. and third in the 100 m
events in the intermediate boys di-
vision and Bridgitte Roelands was
first in the 400 m. and 200 m
events in the intermediate girls divi-
sion.
Despite being in direct competi-
tion with 16 other schools the re-
sults posted by these four students
is one of the best performances re-
corded by Mount Carmel in six
years.
t June meeting held
for Dashwood WI
DASHWOOD - The Dashwood
Women's Institute met at the hall at
7:30 p.m. on Tuesday June 4. Pro-
grams for 96-97 were distributed.
The meeting opened with a poem
"June". Each reada verse. The roll
call "In what way are you a volun-
teer"? followed by secretary and
treasurer reports.
Business consisted of W.I. Dis-
trict picnic July 2, District Annual
report, Curator Workshop in Wal-
lacetown August 13, London Area
Convention October 24 in St.
Thomas, and an educational work-
shop Novembei 4 in Clinton.
Exercises and a sit and stand
game were followed by "The Bene-
fits of Trees," read alternately by
the members. Other contests were
Family Tree, Pair Tree, Tree Tea-
sers and a No Name. Meeting
closed with a brown bag Lunch and
tea.

Forty years of service
More than 300 family, friends and congregation members
helped Father Mooney celebrate his 40th annivesary on
Sunday with St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lucan. Father
Mooney will not be retiring however, he will be Joining a par-
ish in London and will be missed by St. Patrick Church
members.

Exeter Public School held a chess competition for all south Schools on Thursday. The
first place winner was Eric Brownlee, from Stephen Central, Tom Phouttharath, from
McCurdy Public placed second and Jason Restemayer from Exeter Public was third. The
team trophy went to Ben Hindmarsh and Tom Phouttharath from McCurdy. The event was

CENTRALIA - On Sunday, June
9, Terryair was crowded with avia-
tion enthusiasts and their families.
Gus Chisholm and his family treat-
ed everyone to a barbecue, com-
plete with baked beans and cole-
slaw. Dave Frayne made several
brief announcements to conduct the
business meeting for the Sexsmith
RAA Club. Later, the band "The
Young and the Rest of Us", enter-
tained the crowd with several old-
time favorites. Mark Stuart demon-
strated his aviation talents in mem-
ory of his .fathe)', Terry, who was
lulled . recentlyt►hile test -flying a-,
homebuilt aircraft. The weather
provided poor flying conditions,
but everyone enjoyed the food and
fellowship.
On Wednesday, June 12, at 6
p.m., the Grand Bend Air Show
Committee has arranged another
tribute to Terry. The Snowbirds
will perform at 6 p.m. at the Huron
Air Park. Admission and parking
are free, and everyone is invited to
take this opportunity to attend this
special performance.
SS Anniversary service
On Sunday, June 9, a joint wor-
ship service was held at Zion West
to celebrate the Sunday School An-
- niversary Service. Children from
the Sunday School presented the
musical "Who Built the Ark?"
Cross and Crown Awards were
presented for their participation
throughout the year.
UCW
Centralia UCW held their meet-
ing on June 6. The meeting was
held following a potluck supper.
The guest speaker for the evening
was Sheila Butchart from Lucan,
who demonstrated how hand move-
ment near the body could generate
energy to help promote healing.
Upcoming activities
Camp Menesetung is asking for'
help in providing snacks for camp-
ers this Sunday. Anyone willingto
help is asked to deliver two dozen
cookies to Centralia United Church
on June 19. The cookies should be
labelled to indicate the kind and the
date they were baked.
Women at Centralia United
Church are invited to a special
choir practise at the church on June
13 at 7 p.m. The women will com-
bine their musical talents to sing at
the church service on Father's Day.
Members of the Official Board
will meet on June 20 at 8 p.m. at
Zion United Church.
Zion . will hold their annual
church picnic Sunday, June 23.
Worship will be an outdoor service
at the Whelan School at 11:30 a.m.
Centralia United Church will meet
at 10:00 a.m. for worship that day.
On June 26, worship at Exeter
Villa will be a celebration to mark
their tenth anniversary. Anyone
able to participate at 2:30 p.m. is
welcome to attend.

Centralia United Churches will be-
gin on June 30 with a joint worship
service at 10 a.m. and will continue
