Fury allow a tie In last five minutes EXETER - The Exeter Fury played host to Embro Sunday in a close game that resulted in a disap- pointing 1-1 tie for the Fury. The first half of play saw Exeter getting the better chances to score but failing to capitalize on their op- portunities. Dave Boersma, Chuck Walker and Tom Westerveld each had a good scoring chance but just missed. The Fury controlled the game in the first half with their passing and were finally rewarded on a corner kick. Embro started pressing for a goal in the second half but the Fury de- fense turned away the opposition every time. Goaltender Craig Winbow came up with a tremendous diving grab off a head ball from in close to pre- serve the Fury lead. With approximately five minutes left in the game an unfortunate hand ball was called against the Fury in the penalty area. Youngsters 4 to 12 years -old from Centralia, Huron Park, Credi- ton, Dashwood and surrounding areas will participate in the Exeter Summer Playground program this year, but only if there is enough interest. Lynne Farquhar, Director for the South Recreation Centre said she attended a meeting with parents from Stephen Township who want- ed to start a playground program. Farquhar suggested they consider joining Exeter's already established program instead of taking the chance of starting one up on their own only to see it fail due to a lack of interest. "We discussed a number of different options but this is cheaper and easier," she said. "It doesn't makes sense for all the different communities to offer a playground program if they're going to struggle to survive." Youngsters will be able to attend Exeter's playground activities three days a week for a three week period starting July 8. It would also include a swimming period at Exeter's outdoor pool, however, optional field trips will cost extra. The Crediton Optimists will provide transportation to pick them bp at designated pick-up points and shuttle them to Exeter free of charge. With the Optimists absorbing the transportation expense, it would only cost parents $8 for one child, $7 for two children or $6 for three or more. A pre -registration date will take place on June 11 at the Stephen Township Municipal Office from 6:30 p.m to 8 p.m., but if there are not enough people interested, the program will fold. "Parents who want to take advantage of the program should do so that night because we have to make a decision whether we'll keep it or not," said Farquhar. Crediton Optimist Brenda Morgan said they can't justify paying for the bus service to shuttle three or four children back and forth. "The pre -registration date will determine how much interest there is...we would need around 15 kids to make it worth while," said Morgan. The Elite's 7-1 romp over Mel- bourne on Thursday got off to a slow start. Chrissy Morgan and Jill Sararas capped the inning when they each banged a triple. Bonnie Hartwick pitched for five innings allowing only one run be- fore she was relieved by Jane Rowe who didn't allow any hits for the rest of the game.
