Huron Ridge Acres has grown from a 2,000 square foot greeenhouse op- eration in 1973 to the present inside greenhouse square footage in excess of 40,000. Son Kevin is also involved in the business with his parents at their loca- tion, about a mile and a half weft of Zurich and three miles and a half north. Wednesday of last week, Huron Rs - ... e..,ployees were trans- planting tomato plants which will be ready for the customer in about three weeks. Dave Steckle says, "We have all kinds of annual and perennial flowers. It's a great advantage for the customer to come right to the grower. They get a better selection right at the source with access to all greenhouses without going outside. The customer can take whatever quantity they want.” Talking about the recent cool and wet weather and the delay of gar- dening, Steckle adds, "Daffodils and tulips are definitely later this year and we will have later plants to use for fill-ins. We will have them in late May. and early June." New at Huron Ridge Acres this year is a new variety of Milli -flora pe- tunias. They have smaller flowers than usual and are self cleaning, taking away the need to pick off spent petals. The new variety is more proficient with blooms and they cover almost like impatiens. Squash and melon seeds will be planted likely next week for later sale. In July, poinsettia root cuttings are started for the Christmas trade and by the end of November, Easter lilies are started. Many of the spring seedings are started at Christmas time. Garden mums and pansies will be in full color for the fall market along with ornamental kale. Available now is a wide varietyof vegetable and flowering bedding plants along with foliage plants for interior decorations. The selection of perennials is one of the largest in Huron county. Out in full instant color for Mothers Day will be geraniums, hanging baskets, wall bags and a wide variety of other flowers. Huron Ridge Acres takes great pride in the quality, variety and com- petitive pricing of all of their nursery stock. These include shade trees, fruit trees, evergreen shrubs, flowering trees and bushes, potted rose bush- es and ground covers. The Huron Ridge Acres garden centre has peat moss, potting soils, bark chips and mulch, fertilizers and chemicals and a full line of organic fer- tilizers and pesticides. Huron Ridge also operates a full service florist shop at 21 Goshen Street north in Zurich with -always a good selection of fresh flowers at com- petitive prices and artificial arrangenients to choose, from custom made to your color specifications. During November and December, poinsettias are featured at Huron Ridge Acres and can be seen at the annual Open House, held on the last weekend of November. Special spring hours are now in effect until June 15.
