South Huron soccer and rugby round -up
EXETER - The South Huron sen-
ior boys soccer team extended their
regglar league undefeated streak to
four games after beating Seaforth
8-0 Friday and Goderich 4-0 on
Wednesday.
Dave Farquhar led the Panthers
with two goals against Goderich,
followed by Matt Szabo and Sou -
ban lnlakhana who netted one each.
"That was their first good game."
said coach George McEwan. "They
controlled the ball better and
played a good skillful soccer
game."
The Panthers have struggled with
their shooting in their first two
games, however, McEwan said
that is starting to turn around and
the Panthers demonstrated a better
Baan McAllister tip -toes his way through two helpless
Seaforth players during South Huron's 8-0 drubbing over
the visiting team on Friday. McAllister showed no mercy
scoring twice, with one goal coming off the head in the
second half.

shooting game during their 8-0
thumping over Seaforth.
Souban Inlakhana, Marty De-
bruyn and Bryan McAllister scored
twice for the Panthers while Matt
Sims and Scott Rasenberg contrib-
uted one goal each. The Panthers
had a chance to go up by nine
when Adan Jean was given a pen-
alty shot in the second half, but
Jean's kick went high missing the
let. That was his second con-
secutive miss from the penalty line.
Saturday's Tournament
The South Huron senior boys
soccer team hosted a 20 team tour-
nament on Saturday placing second
overall.
After a slow, score -free start, the
team won their last two pool
games to earn a semi-final berth
with two wins and two ties.
A precision pass by Debruyn was
buried by Farquhar in the team's
1-0 semi-final win over St Mary's
High School from Cambridge. In
the tournament final, an early goal
by Regina Mundi, the first scored
on goalie Luke Sims, set the team
back before a second half goal by
Debruyn took the game into a
shootout. After eight shooters for
each team, Regina Mundi came out
with the win.
Junior boys soccer
The South Huron junior boys soc-
cer team earned their first win of
the season beating Goderich 3-2
Wednesday.
Chad Monteith, BJ Theo-
philopoulos and Jeff Campbell
scored for the Panthers. Hot off
their win in Goderich the juniors
hosted St Anne's Friday winning
5-0. Campbell netted two goals
while Monteith, Peter Fragiskatos
and Joe Barty scored one each.
Trevor Skinner earned the shutout.
Rugby
The South Huron boys Rugby
team tied Petrolia 10-10 on Friday
in one of their best performances
of the year.
Steve Lansbergen scored his first
career "try" and Brian Jeremy
scored on the convert and scored
again later on a penalty kick. The
team uavelled to London Monday,
but results were not known at press
time.
The girls rugby team saw action
for the first time since the team
was created losing 15-10 in an ex-
hibition game against St Marys.
The game came close to ending in a
tie but a Panther "try" was dis-
allowed early in the game.
Considering it was the first girls
rugby game ever in South Huron
history, the team moved the ball
well breaking out with a few ex-
citing runs and making some crisp
tackles..
Carrie Cochrane scored the dis-
allowed "try", and teammate Cara
Gardner scored the second. Gard-
ner and Lisa Campbell combined
for South Huron's third "try."
Senior Girls Soccer
The South Huron senior girls soc-
cer team is still holding on to their
number one position in the league
after a 4-0 win over Seaforth on
Monday.
Helen Theophilopoulos, Meagan
Ratz and Heather Davies each
scored for the Panthers and Rose
Damen put one in on a penalty
kick.
Carolyn Quinn recorded the shut-
out. '
"We played as a unit and easily
defeated them," said coach Jim
Workman, noting the senior girls
team has not given up a goal in
league play so far this season.
That held true in a game against
Goderich on April 30, however, the
Panthers also failed to score re-
sulting in a 0-0 tie.
Weather conditions played a fac-
tor in the game.
