Accident victims recuperating A mother and daugh- ter were involved in a car accident last week. Congratulations to Jeanette Kaak, daughter of Joe and Diane Kaak, and Kevin Masse, son of Clare and Lucille Masse of Zurich, who were married May 4 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel church. Jeanette's matron of honor was her sister Con- nie Masse. Bridesmaids were sister Julie Kaak, two sisters-in-law, Lu- cia Kaak and Janet Durand, with Amanda Masse as flower girl. Sympathy is expressed to Albert Rader in the death of his wife, Mar- ian, on April 21. Elliott and Kay Clarke, of the B. line, attended a family gathering to celebrate the 85th birthday of their uncle, Bill Clarke, Saturday at Goderich. Get well wishes go to Trudy Smith and her daughter Roberta who were in a car accident last week. Trudy is convalescing at Victoria hospital in London and Roberta is with her Aunt Pat. Ken and Marg Baker visited on Monday with Earl Baker at Terrace Lodge, Aylmer. Jim and Lenore Orr have re- turned to their home here after win- tering in the south. Congratulations to Melvin and Gertie Stade, and Pat and Jake Schroeder who observe their 39th wedding anniversaries this month of May. By Joan Belerwtg Varna correspondent VARNA - Varna -Goshen congre- gations on Sunday listened to guest speaker Kevin Stewart, host of the Family Farmer. He is presently working with the Baton Broadcast- ing system in London. Carol Simons gave the call to worship and children's story. Stew- art's message was "Marks of an Ef- fective Church" which left every- one with some thoughts. Sunday, May 12 the church ser- vice will be held in Varna at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Willy Ziegler. This will be a baptism service. The Trends Youth Group have built a school out of over 800 Lego bricks in an effort to raise money for the Bluefields' Project in Nica- ragua. They plan to sell each brick at a cost of 25it and each person will receive a paper brick with their name on it to paste on the brick wall. Some of the Youth Group will be selling bricks in Varna Church on Sunday, May 12 and Goshen on Sunday, May 19. The Trends will be bowling at Crown Lanes on May 18 at 2 p.m. A community shower is to be held for Dale Evans on May 14 at 8 p.m. in Stanley Township Com- plex. A donation envelope is in the Varna General Store. Huron Centennial School The Huron Centennial School Auction was a success, realizing an approximate profit of $15,000.00. The community was very suppor- tive. May 14 at 9:30 a.m. there is a General Meeting at the school. Mr. Dyck will be making a presentation to the Council. Babysitting will be provided and everyone is welcome. UCW The Varna Church was full last Thursday evening with Varna U.C.W. and other neighboring U.C.W.'s listening to guest speaker Sherene Davidson, mother of Jesse. Davidson men- tioned that this was a lifetime event for Jesse and his family and that this was her husband John's idea. Sherene and her husband John have three boys, Tyler, 18 years old, Jessie, 16 years old and Tim, 13 years old. Jessie's Walk Across Ontario started May 20, 1995 and ended September 20, 1995, a total of 120 days. It was mentioned that they had lots of fun and met many new friends. People they didn't know were very kind to take them in and feed them and keep them the night. This will be a very memora- ble experience for the whole fami- ly. Davidson also announced that on May 20 there will be a 5 km walk in Springbank Park. All pledges go towards Jessie's Dream. Gordie Howe will be there, along with oth- er surprises. It was announced that $750.00 was raised from the Five Alive for the school house roof in Bluefields, Nicaragua last Sunday, April 28 in Kippen Church. Yard sale There will be another annual Community Yard Sale once again at the Stanley Complex May 18 and 19 beginning at 9 a.m. Anyone wanting tables is to call Miriam Coleman at 263-5354. Stan -Lee club The Stan -Lee Club met at the Complex May 1 at 8 p.m. with 28 present. The meeting was opened with a poem. Minutes were read an adopted. A thank you was received from the Clinton Hospital Auxil- iary regarding the euchre party. Each member was to give a joke or reading which was enjoyed but all didn't participate. The Alzheimer Society of Huron County is want- ing volunteers. If you have time and would like to become a trained volunteer call 482-1482 and ask for Shelley Rogers Bedard. It was moved by Elva Peck and seconded by Norene Hayter that the Voice be ordered for one year. Six members attended the Rally in 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 Dashwood and a report was given. The Club is hoping to send one or two delegates to the Convention in London in August. The games are being held in Ex- eter on June 17 and 18. Elva Peck and Eleanor McAsh offered to look after the June meet- ing. Some new officers ate needed for the coming year so the Nomi- nating Committee will be calling members. Seven tables of euchre were play- ing and the winners were: High lady, Margaret Hayter; Low lady Bertha Taylor; High man Bill Pep- per; Low man Bruce Keys. Lunch was enjoyed.
