ChiIdren's Hospital waika success
Approximately 200 participants walked, biked and rolleded to Morrison Dam
EXETER - More than 200 walk-
ers participated in Sunday's Exeter
Optimist Annual Walk for Chil-
dren's Hospital, raising an early es-
timate of $13,000 in pledges.
"Overall, we were very fortunate
to have great weather and we were
happy with the turn out and the
pledges," said Optimist President
Mark Heimrich.
Six-year-old lan Sanders, Chil-
dren's Hospital's 1996 Miracle
Child, cut the ribbon to start the
walk. Ian and his parents Laurie
and Ken, who also participated in
the event, live in Watford.
The walk, that began at the Exist,
er Youth Centre wound its vira�r
along Marlborough Street andup

Huron Street to Concession 2 and
3 and Morrison Dam where par-
ticipants were treated to hot dogs
and pop courtesy of Holtzmann's
IGA. Prior to the walk Precious
Blood School's Catholic's Women's
League served coffee and juice and
Donuts Now provided donut holes.
The Optimist Club's first annual
Walk for Sick Kids takes over the
organization from Audrpy, .atit4,•,,.
Steve Skinner who started the 1?ys
ular event in memory of their bpb*
daughter Stephanie Lynn Who died
of a rare liver disorder on April 5,
1990.
"The Optimists hope to keep up
the tradition started by the Skinner
family which is made possible by
many volunteers and participants,"
said Heimrich.
Backed by tremendous com-
munity support, the Walk for Sick
Kids has raised over $108,000 for
the Children's Hospital of Western
Ontario. The Optimists are seeking
assistance from everyone to con-
tinue the fundraising effort. Pledges
will be accepted until May 19 at
Sugar and Spice or Bill Dinney

first annual Optimist Walk
for Children's Hospital.
